| mommy_quigg's Full Review: Kushies Swim Diapers |
After starting to use cloth diapers, I wanted to go all cloth. Even though I still had a mostly-full package of swim diapers in the closet from last year that would still fit, I purchased one of these to take with us on vacation.
Having to pay $1 for each swim diaper kept me from taking him swimming as much. Now that I have a reusable swim diaper, we often head over to my moms for a swim. I also dont have to worry about running out and having to go to the store and pay money to buy more since it is always handy.
From the Kushies website:
Waterproof quick drying 100% nylon outer shell, gusseted legs for baby comfort hold in solid waste, adjustable waist with Velcro attachment and ties for a secure fit. Eliminates the need for regular diapers by combining a 100% cotton terry middle layer with a soft, polyester mesh inner layer for cushy comfort for your baby's bottom. The soft inside is comfortable for baby to wear with leg and waist bands that are snug.
The colorfast baby swim diaper is good for swimming seasons, machine washable and Dryable. We've found these to be the best on the market and better than the pull-up kind. It allows for removal, if baby is soiled, by unfolding off rather than pulling the mess down your baby's body. Most public and private pools are prohibiting the use of disposable diapers. This reusable swimsuit diaper provides an affordable and environmentally friendly alternative to disposable swim diapers.
It's cute enough to be worn alone instead of under a swimsuit.
Size range
Small: 6-14 lbs/3-6 kg
Medium: 14-15 lbs/6-11 kg
Large: 25-40 lbs/11-18 kg
X-Large: 44-50 lbs/20-23 kg
Tabs close using hook and loop tape with ties for added security. Unlike Kushies Ultra AIO or Classic diapers however, there are no laundry tabs so I just close the tabs as if I were putting it on him.
Containment: These are not intended to hold in liquids, only solids. Pee is sterile when it comes out and any bacteria would be prevented from breeding by the chemicals in the pool. I dont know how well they would hold up for breastfed poos since those are mostly liquid. It does have gussets so that should help.
There is a sewn-in patch of terry cloth that catches a small amount of dribble so they dont leave a puddle on the way to the pool.
You could use a diaper liner with these. I haven't so far because of the terry cloth which should make it easy to shake off any solid waste. I havent had experience with that yet.
Fit: A size large fits my 30-lb son very well. The material is very thin and clings to skin when wet. I dont know how comfortable this is for him. It would bother me, but he doesnt complain.
Drying: These dry faster than my bathing suit. I can lay them out and they are dry in a few hours, or they are safe to put in the dryer. They are also machine washable. I just throw them in with his cloth diapers.
Available in several patterns and solid colours. They look much cuter than what is pictured above. Go to www.kushiesonline.com to see more pictures.
Cost: I purchased this for around $7 CAD from Walmart. They are also available from Sears.
For more information about why to use cloth, or how to wash or use cloth diapers, check out www.diaperpin.com or www.diaperswappers.com. I am in no way affiliated with these sites, I just find them helpful.
