Ah, the life of a dog, can it get any better? As short as it is, I would like to think we try to do all we can to make the abbreviated time they share with us as fulfilling as we can make it, after all, we take on the great responsibility of their care and well being and why shouldn't we make the most of it?

I have a couple of pet peeves when it comes to my dogs grooming, one is nicely shaped and groomed paws and white sparkly teeth, the latter being the more challenging task. We have an arsenal of toys and chews that help us in out endeavor to keep our Golden's teeth and gums healthy. Having tried the Kyjen tugs with great results, we decided to give their large Fleecy Clean Ball a shot while on a recent trip to the local big box pet store.
The Kyjen series of toys feature a durable fleece a bit more resilient than what we would wear, but more in line with the industrial type of fleece you would expect to use drying or washing your car. Cut into strips, the Fleecy Clean Ball measures 7.5 inches in diameter and tightly cored for durability. The hows and whys of the product really start to emerge as you allow your dogs the opportunity to invest a little playtime with the Clean Ball. Our dogs often sit and chew into the Clean Ball. I took the opportunity to see what really happens when they do and was reassured that the Clean Ball works much the same as the tug in that it rubs against the surface of the tooth, essentially scrubbing the surface much like flossing, removing any food residue that can eventually lead to tartar buildup, which will work its way under the gum leading to advanced periodontal disease. It has been established that advanced periodontal disease leads to heart disease, tooth loss and bad breath. Beef shank bones are probably the best and cheapest way to go to keep teeth clean and bright, but I question whether you want to have them lying around the house making the Fleecy Clean Ball one of a few a great alternatives.
My Golden's love me hiding a toy and having them look for it, so much that they will relentlessly offer it up as I work or sit anywhere. While I can keep them at bay with the appropriate command, I can't resist the face and, once again, we are off to the races. I will throw, hide and roll the Fleecy Clean Ball to their delight and they will retrieve it, sit a little and chew. The result is that they both get involved, we bond and more importantly, they end up with clean teeth and great breath.
The caveat should be established that this chew will not remove tartar or turn back the clock on periodontal disease but used properly, it can be one of your many tools that you can employ to control and prevent tartar buildup by providing a regular cleaning regimen that will result in healthy cleaner teeth and gums, possibly prolonging your dogs quality of life, which is no small feat. You should exercise vigilance wile using this and any toys that can be ingested. I make a point of putting this toy away, employing it after mealtime; besides, it makes it all the more appealing to them giving me a bit more control on when they use it. I have purchased a few of these, replacing it as it starts to break down and will continue to because it works. The Kyjen Fleecy Clean Ball is a winner!
