This was my first mobile phone and the phone that I bought when I signed up online for Sprint PCS. I bought it based partly on the price (under $100) and partly on the positive reviews on epinions.com
Everything that was said about the phone is right on the money so far - it is great value for money - it receives calls OK, sounds OK, looks OK and it's extremely light. I've found it a good starter phone for someone who doesn't need all the bells and whistles.
However, before giving it a rave review, I wanted to point out some of the shortcomings of the phone.
Firstly, it does not have a vibrate option. Some people might be able to get away without having a buzz option, but I found that even casual use of a mobile phones got me into situations where I wanted to keep the phone on yet not worry about disturbing people around me.
The options for turning on and off the sound are somewhat clumsy until you get used to them - silencing the ringer is relatively straightforward, but navigating the menus silently is impossible without first turning off the beeps (which you can do from the menu - a mildly annoying vicious circle). You can easily muffle the sound using a cushion though!
Second problem with it is that all the options are accessible through menus, although specific options are stored in somewhat random locations (eg. all the various beeps that the phone makes are split between the sound menu and the alerts menu - a total of about 10 individual menu options).
The third problem, and I'm convinced that this was a manufacturers defect (although Sprint PCS would argue otherwise) was that the internal LCD screen on my original phone cracked with no pressure applied to it. Sprint PCS refused to replace the phone on the grounds that the damage done was physical. I don't believe them, but if that is the case, this phone is flimsy - the LCD screen developed a fault after 3 weeks of excessively careful use (I didn't dare manhandle the phone as my fiancee actually paid for it!) The extensible aerial doesn't look to strong either, but time will tell.
Anyway, enough about the negatives. This is a great phone for the money. There might be better ones available, but if you are on a budget and don't mind a noisy phone, this is an excellent one to start with.
