| traber's Full Review: Kyocera QCP 3035 Cell Phone |
After owning a much larger, older-style Qualcomm phone for several years that served me well, I was interested in purchasing a Kyocera (by Qualcomm) cell phone when I made my decision to upgrade.
Cell phones have come a long way in the last few years, and the QCP-3035 is certainly no exception.
This model has all the features you need in a cell phone and a few other thoughtful tools as well.
It is light and compact, yet still easy to use. The menu control button, which acts somewhat like a "mouse" is a little hard to get used to at first, but after some practice, you learn how to use it to access all the features.
The phone is web-enabled and I have had no problems accessing the web, reading email, etc. via my Qwest wireless browsing service.
The phone features a comprehensive "contacts" menu that includes provisions for labeling a contact's phone number as "home," "work," or "mobile." The numbers are stored with icons next to them so you only need to highlight the number and click once to dial. In addition, the phone has voice- activated dialing - a very handy feature. You "train" the phone to recognize your voice (a quick, easy procedure) then record "voice tags" that you attach to any contact number. You then simply speak the contact's name and the number is dialed for you.
Other features include a voice memo function, text memos, a scheduler, an alarm clock, a tip calculator (very useful), a regular calculator and a stopwatch. The phone can be set to ring, ring then vibrate, vibrate only or flash background light only. It's easy to turn these functions on or off depending on where you'll be when you think your phone will ring.
The phone also has a speakerphone built in. I've found that the speakerphone does not work that well in loud areas, such as inside a car, but it does work well if you want to check voice mail and just set the phone down to write out notes or want to include someone else in the room in the conversation.
All in all, I've found this phone to be very useful and the quality to be consistent. (I have dropped the phone on several occasions with no ill effect.) It's also truly portable - another important feature for a cell phone - I can easily slip it into any pocket and go.
