Pros: efficient, reliable, on-time

The Bottom Line: Nothing spectacularly good, but efficient and reliable are qualities too often lacking in airlines these days.

| Jiahong's Full Review: LAN Airlines |
The first time I went to Perú (1985) internal flights were on what was generally called "Aero peor" (the worst airline), Aero Perú. particularly vivid in my memory is its canceling our Cuzco-Lima flight and not announcing it. (All the Peruvian passengers were waiting patiently, so it's not that we missed the announcement. Steve eventually asked when the flight was going to board and was told that it wasn't.(
On the two extended visits to Perú in the last two years, the internal flights have been on LAN Airlines, a vast improvement. LAN is the "flag carrier" of Chile, based in Santiago.
The intra-Perú flights did not have any business class (unlike the pretense of Croatia Air also on an Airbus 319). The flight attendants were efficient in distributing boxes of foodstuffs and beverages on flights of less than an hour. All six flights were on time, including a Cuzco-Lima one. The flight staff and the ground staff were invariably courteous, boardings were orderly, and luggage handling reliable and efficient (more than I can say for American...)
The boarding process was efficient. (And airport security did not demand removing shoes, an absurd degradation ritual the US government inflicts on air passengers.)
There are South America Air Passes from LAN available to persons not resident in South America and with fare calculations too complicated for me to understand.
I earned American miles from the LAN flights, though having to request them after returning homes. LAN code-shares with Aeroméxico, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, British Airways, Iberia, Japan Airlines, Mexicana de Aviación, Qantas, Korean Air.
Obviously, the Chilean flag carrier does not just fly within Perú, nor just within Chile. It has many flights around South America and also flies to Auckland, Sydney, Papatee, Havana, LA, Miami, New York, Dulles, Toronto, Mexico City, Cancun, Madrid, and Frankfurt a/M.
