| yogore's Full Review: LEGO Bionicle Bohrok Lehvak |
Although the Lehvak work in swarms, they tend to operate best in smaller groups, hitting and running, and thus they are probably the most individually motivated of all the Bohrok, and more than capable of thinking and operating alone. The Lehvak are clever tacticians, and the only real way to stop them is to corner a group and surprise each one individually.
Lehvak, the Swamp Bohrok, is part of Lego's Bionicle line. For more basic information on the world of Bionicles, read my essay on this series at http://www.epinions.com/content_2532089988
I loved the Bionicle line from the minute I bought them, but I wished there were some (affordable) enemies for them to overcome. However, I was a bit leery of the Bohrok when I first saw them; their weird shape and action mechanism seemed a bit too odd for me. I took a chance though, and soon had more villains than heroes.
I picked up Lehvak because he looked the most like the insects that describe the Bohrok species. With his green body, white fangs, and blood red eyes, this swamp thing cuts an intimidating figure. His 4" tall body is comprised of a half circle for a torso, a domed head, and balljointed limbs, just like every other Bohrok. His krana is reddish-orange, and his hands/shields/weapons are large green pincers.
Actually, his hands bug me a bit: the rest of the Bohrok weapons have at least some semblance of symmetry; Lehvak's lobster claws have one large area and one small. It constantly looks like he's got one hand palm up and the other palm down.
The krana (that red thing in the center of his head up there) is a tiny living creature which exists in symbiosis with Lehvak. It acts as a sort of brain for the Bohrok, making them smarter, faster, and more wily as well as giving them a name and a position within the hive. The krana are packed randomly, so I got Lehvak Xa (Xa is the strategist Swarm Commander krana). I've also gotten Yo (Mole) and Vu (Surveyor) krana from mask packs, so I could have a Lehvak Yo or Lehvak Vu if I wanted.
Lehvak's balljointed shoulders, hips, wrists and ankles allow for quite an impressive variety in posing--I've got five Bohrok, and none of them are posed the same way. Plus, those joints allow you to tuck the arms and legs in, rolling Lehvak into a sphere. You can then suspend the "dormant" bug from the lid of the canister in which it was sold. I really appreciate not having to take my toy apart to store it for any length of time.
With a winning combination of playability, price, and design, Lehvak is a great toy to have. With wicked claws, a quick attack action and the (pretend) power to spit acid, Lehvak is a great adversary for the Toa. You win two ways!
