| bonniesayers's Full Review: LEGO Bionicle Lewa Bionicle Toa |
This is the latest purchase I made for my seven year-old son at Kmart for $7.98. This canister consists of thirty-six pieces in two shades of green and black to make the LEGO Bionicle Lewa Bionicle Toa stand about seven inches tall. The recommended age range for this building toy starts at seven. Each of the canisters has a plastic wrapping depicting the Bionicle and is removed. I prefer the Gohrok canisters where the plastic stays on the inside. Once the cover is removed the canister displays all the others in the set with the can code underneath the picture.
The lid is twisted off and the step by step directions in easy to follow diagrams is located inside. The legs to the LEGO Bionicle Lewa Bionicle Toa are put together in three steps. With a total of twenty-eight steps in under thirty minutes your Toa of Air is ready for action. We also have the LEGO 2002 Bionicle: Gahlok and the LEGO Bionicle Pohatu Bionicle Toa interchanging their masks with one click and snap off and on.
This is what the site states in regard to the LEGO Bionicle Lewa Bionicle Toa, found at http://www.lego.com/eng/bionicle/characters.asp?charid=lewa:
“ Lewa is supremely competent with aerial activities. He glides through the air with ease while jumping from tree to tree. His axe effortlessly slices through trees and vines as he climbs through his jungle around Kauae Bay. Lewa prefers to inhabit the treetops because he is somewhat clumsy on land and flat surfaces.
Lewa is quick to jump to conclusions--and he's the first to get into trouble. But his instincts are often true, and his hunches frequently turn out to be correct. If there's a fight, he's always the first to jump in, protecting others before himself.”
When you turn the gray crank behind his body this enables his right arm to swing the axe up or down. The left hand has two black and gray pieces that help him grab onto the tree branches. He rules the sky, the clouds and the wind. His green powerful eyes look like they would glow in the dark enabling you to see them behind the mask. He stands very sturdy and can move about with ease. His arms can move completely around his body to battle obstacles behind him.
My son is also able to store the mask when not in use on the top of the lid to the canister. There are holes to the lid where my son also inserts red pieces from other Lego sets. My son enjoys making the figure and following the directions on his own with no assistance. Once completed he lines them up on a table and communicates with them using his imagination. Each of these in the Bionicle Toa line have similar parts that make the assembly easier as your collection grows. The differences are in the color, masks and objects that they utilize. My son also interchanges the rock with the LEGO Bionicle Pohatu Bionicle Toa. Once the figure is fully assembled the gears and parts are firmly in place without falling apart even with the rough action my son puts them through.
The design of this LEGO Bionicle Lewa Bionicle Toa is very sleek and sturdy. The axe is realistic looking and stays in place on the arm. There are black ball joints that hold the legs together and the arms. It appears he is wearing green boots. My son does not really know the names of all these in the line and just refers to them by their color. It is hard to note the proper words for the parts on these figures as the directions have no written text just diagrams showing which piece gets attached in sequence.
What matters is that my son has achieved confidence in his abilities to follow along in the manual and be proud of his finished assembled figures. The only down side would be yesterday his teacher mentioned he has a hard time focusing on school work and instead wants to talk about Bionicles. It seems classmates are bringing in their Bionicles for share time, so now this coming Monday the LEGO Bionicle Lewa Bionicle Toa is riding along in the backpack for an afternoon of play with other kids. The canisters are easy to store but the manuals tend to get ripped and crumbled back inside.
