My best Lego investment - Lego Brick Separator
Written: Aug 5, 2012 (Updated Aug 5, 2012)

Pros:Separates Lego bricks easily
Cons:We haven't found any
The Bottom Line: Separate your Lego bricks in a matter of seconds without breaking a nail. A must have!
One of my most favorite Lego purchases is not a big Lego set, but rather the Lego Brick Separator. If you have ever tried to separate Lego bricks only to end up with chipped nails, then I think the Lego Brick Separator will become one of your favorites too. This small tool is only about three inches long. It is made of the same plastic as a Lego brick. It is somewhat triangular shaped so that it fits easily in the hand. The wider end has ridges so that the hand can grip the separator. At the other end is a small indentation for the thumb. Just beyond that indentation, it looks almost like a Lego brick with an additional little lip. There are the two raised parts like the top of a brick, and underneath looks similar to the bottom of a Lego brick. So now you have two Lego bricks you can’t get apart. Grab that separator – getting them apart will be much easier than trying to get your fingernail into a space much thinner than any of your nails. At first my husband and I assumed we would use that little lip to get the bricks apart. But you don’t even have to work that hard. Place the part that looks like the bottom of the Lego brick onto the top of the brick that needs to be removed. A gentle pull and … those two bricks are detached from one another. It’s so quick and simple you will kick yourself for waiting so long to get it. My kids love Legos. They can sit for hours and build. They will make their own creations and they will build then rebuild the sets. But no matter what they are building, someone will come to me with a group of attached Legos and ask “Can you get these apart for me?” That question always results in a cringe and a sigh. There go my nails. Sometimes it ends in with a kid stamping their feet because after my frustration I still can’t get the bricks apart. None of this has happened since we got the Lego Brick Separator. It is so incredibly simple to use. My kids can now get the bricks apart without even turning to me for help. It can sometimes take me a while to struggle to get bricks apart using my hands. With the brick separator, they’ll have them apart in a matter of seconds. This tool only cost me $5. Considering that some of our sets cost over $100 to purchase, this small five dollar investment is so worth it. No chipped nails, no frustration, no bricks stuck together. This small Lego accessory is a must have for anyone that builds with Legos.
