Pros:Nicely made figure; good paint applications and detailing; love the trophy
Cons:Seriously, no soccer ball for the soccer player?
The Bottom Line: The Soccer Player from LEGO Minifigures Series 4 would actually make a lot os sense if he actually had a soccer ball. Who screwed up on that part?
I have to admit that I had no idea who the Soccer Player was supposed to be when I first pulled him out from the LEGO Minifigures Series 4 collection. That’s because he didn’t look anything like a soccer player at all. Either that or I’m really getting out of touch with reality.

The Soccer Player doesn’t really have any special characteristics to make him very identifiable, which is probably the treason for my state of confusion. I realize I should have made that distinction from his soccer uniform, especially with his shirt, but in all fairness he looked more like a race car driver to me. I should have realized when looking at the white shirt white blue vertical stripes that he was of the soccer variety. It’s actually very well done and is perhaps the only way to help with his identity. There is a lot of branding on his clothes from his shirt even to his shorts that make him looking like a walking advertisement (another reason why I thought he was a race car driver).
Speaking of shorts, I barely realized he was even wearing any until I saw the thin yellow line go across the front of his legs to indicate that he wasn’t wearing pants. It’s a bit deceiving because this doesn’t carry over into the back.
I actually like the hair style. It has a tousled look to it and looks a bit unkempt. His smiling face shows signs of stubble and scruff around his mouth area, a nice touch to show is manly nature. I guess David Beckham was used as a model for this one (I wonder if LEGO Spice Girls will follow suit). But the thing that confused me the most is the trophy that comes with him. Don’t get me wrong it looks absolutely fantastic and unfortunately the best piece in this set. This is the item that really led me to believe that this was a race car driver. The award looks like an Oscar from the Academy Awards but it doesn’t scream soccer player. A soccer ball, on the hand, would have done the trick but alas none is to be found at all. I don’t understand that reasoning at all other than the fact that it won’t fit on the included display base.
This figure is one of sixteen in this series, all of which are blind packaged so no one knows which one will be obtained. They figures are going anywhere from $1.99 - $3.99 each at retail stores.
There is nothing truly exciting or spectacular with the Soccer Player. He’s a great figure with good paint applications but not memorable enough just because he is missing that one element that makes up his identity.
