| Freak369's Full Review: LEGO Harry Potter Quality Quidditch Supplies 4719 |
The newest sets in the Harry Potter line of Legos are now available! Knockturn Alley [4720] and Quality Quidditch Supplies [4719] are two of the sets being released in the 2003 Lego / Potter series and I dont mind telling you how excited I was to receive my shipment from the Lego World Shop. As soon as these sets were available I ordered several of them for the boys to add to their ever-expanding Hogwarts scene that has taken over part of the playroom. If you've never had the chance to see this set you are in for a real eye opening experience because it is chalked full of elements and items that can be used in almost every single Potter set on the market. This set should really be considered an accessory add-on set. Yes, you can build the Quidditch supply store and play around with the items that are sold there but the real magic happens when you combine it with other sets like Diagon Alley Shops and Quidditch Practice.
Quality Quidditch Supplies
The Quality Quidditch Supply storefront is small and doesnt take much time or effort to build so this would be a great set for kids that are just getting in to the Lego concept of building or crossing over from Duplo sets. The best part of the scene has to be the color contrast of the green and gray tone roof tiles, the yellow lanterns on the front of the store and the simulated pane glass window. Even though the building itself is small there are tons of different ways that it can be built. If you have Hogwarts Castle, this can be added to one of the side sections as a store room or if you have Slytherin House or Gryffindor House - this set can be added to help build up the size of the rooms as well as a place to store items. If you build it according to the provided, easy to follow instruction booklet you will end up with a long thin storefront that needs to be rotated to see the front and back of the store. If you have other bricks laying around you can add hinged pieces to the ends of the storefront to enlarge the scene and give it mobility a lot like the way Hagrids Hut is laid out.
Accessories
One of the main reasons I ordered multiples of this set is to get a ton of accessory pieces that are featured in the set. The brown barrel can be used for a lot of different things from storing magic brooms to hiding the golden snitch. The cape stand is a really nice thing in the set and can also be used for a number of things like an owl perch or to place one of the lanterns on. The red and green capes come packaged in a small white box [just like all the other capes in the Potter and Star Wars sets] so make sure this doesnt get tossed in the trash when you are unpacking the set. The two brooms one brown, one orange are standard size and are the same as those found in other Potter sets. You can never have too many magic brooms in your collection then again thats a Lego junkie talking.
One of my favorite pieces is the small blue spell book that has the Golden Snitch on the front of it. The boys have been trying to collect books to build a replica of the Gryffindor Common Room and when these sets go on sale / clearance I plan on purchasing all that I can to help them out. Another favorite of mine is the small 2x2 stenciled Quidditch storefront tile that can hang from the front of the store or be added to part of the wall and used as an address marker. Other elements include 2 magic wands [white], flags [green, red, gray], a Golden Snitch, clear display case [oval topped], a few tools, brown latticework edge piece and a few others that Ill leave as a surprise.
Draco Malfoy
Draco Malfoy hasnt really been featured in a lot of the Lego Potter sets so collecting him in either his Slytherin or Quidditch outfit is a real perk. This figure is a little different from the other two that have been featured in other sets, he comes without a cape [although there are capes in the scene] and appears to be in street clothes instead of an official Hogwarts / Slytherin uniform. He still has the unhappy sneer on his face and seemingly trademarked blonde hair, but doesnt seem to be as visually intimidating as the figure in The Flying Lesson. One of the most impressive things about Draco is his facial expression. With most of the Lego figures you get ones that smile or have no expression, Draco is a welcomed and long overdue figure to the Lego family. Since there are so many elements included with this set, you have a lot that you can do with the Draco figure. Almost all of the accessory pieces can be picked up and carried or help by the figure so you can have a lot of fun with this set.
Things To Know
If you cant find this set at your local toy store you can order it directly from Lego for $9.99 plus shipping and handling. I havent seen these at Target or Wal-Mart yet and when I asked when they would be getting them, I got the usual blank stare from the employees that usually means at least two more weeks. One important thing to keep in mind is that this set only comes with one figure so if a child doesnt have any other Lego sets [Potter or other] this might not be much fun after a half hour or so. You can purchase additional figures online from brick vendors and brokers that deal with individual pieces or check out some of the smaller Potter sets like The Sorting Hat or The Flying Lesson.
The Bottom Line
I have no doubt that I will be purchasing more of these sets in the near future. It is the easiest way to collect some of the accessories that are versatile and can be used in almost every Lego Potter set. For about $10.00 you get a lot of great pieces that have multiple uses as well as the actual Quidditch storefront that can be blended in with other structures in the series. I honestly consider this to be one of the best sets in the series where accessories are concerned however since there is only one figure you will need to purchase other sets to get the full enjoyment out of this one.
