Pros:Love the characteristics and accessories; has great personality; the hairdo is a winner
Cons:May be too plain for some people
The Bottom Line: The Mechanic is the ultimate grease monkey come to life for the LEGO Minifigures Series 6 collection. I don't know if I want to sing Greased Lightning or say "Ayyyyyy".
Sometimes you don’t need flashy outfits or pomp and circumstance to stand out. LEGO Minifigures Series 6 proves this with the unsuspecting, blue-collared worker in the Mechanic.
The Mechanic is perhaps one of the more generic looking figures amidst a sea of colourful characters. Usually I will just shrug my shoulders and say curse silently but in this case I actually like what I see. I guess that’s because this mechanic is oozing with personality that makes him more personable.
His dark blue jumpsuit with grease markings is a great contrast to his yellow skin tone. There are seams, pockets and patches attached on his jumpsuit, a very nice touch in the detailing department. His name could actually be Ralph by his nametag. I love the smiling expression, someone who looks like a happy-go-lucky type of guy, with grease smudges smeared on his face. His hairstyle is magnificent. If there were ever a finer example of an Elvis do, this would be it. In fact he could actually be modified to be Elvis but I see him more as Danny Zuco from Grease.
He comes with some good accessories. In one hand is a red toolbox. It doesn’t open but I didn’t expect it would in the first place. The other piece is a light gray wrench just to solidify his career choice. Of course he always comes with a black display base.
The popularity of these figures has mostly likely led to the increase of price. Series 6 costs anywhere from $1.99 - $3.99. I have also seen it for $4.99 in a few places, which is just ridiculous. Anything over $2.50 is a bit much so it’s best to do some comparison shopping.
I’m actually surprised how much I like the Mechanic. He may just look like an average Joe amongst all these colourful characters but sometimes it’s nice to see a little bit of normalcy. He’s a filthy grease monkey and maybe that’s why he has a certain charm. For some reason I now want to entire cast of Happy Days created in LEGO format with the Mechanic serving as the prototype for the Fonz. This needs to be created now.
