Pros: Works as stated, great for cameras and computer data
Cons: does not work for HD recording and higher class devices
The Best & Most Affordable SD Cards by Lexar
Just avoid a low class rating of 4 or less
I accidentally purchased one of these low class SD cards and realized my mistake rather quickly. SD cards have class ratings which determine what the SD card can be used for, for example a class rating like this one is a 2 and it is perfect for storing basic data from tablets, laptops, computers, phones, and simple point and shoot cameras. To determine what type class your device is, simply pull up the specs in the manual or if it came with a SD card, check out what class it is.
However, a class two cannot function properly in a camcorder and will basically malfunction on HD camcorders like GoPro and others. Malfunction can include glitches with sound recording, video recording, or recording period if the card is just too low. The great thing is that higher class SD cards are backwards compatible which means avoid buying anything under a class 4. I go all the way to the top and purchase a class 10 to use with my high end camcorders and DSLR camera.
Only for the class reason, I do not recommend this SD card - however it is perfect, affordable and functions as stated but due to the lack of compatibility I recommend purchasing at least a class 5 or above.
4 GB SD cards are nearlyfree now because of the requirements of HD camcorders and high resolution cameras that require much more space to keep all the data. It is recommended to purchase a 16 GB card for around $15, which on a per GB cost, is cheaper than the 4 GB cards – just wait for a sale or coupon and save yourself some time.
How much a 4 GB SD card can hold:
Movies: At low resolution, it can hold maybe 60 minutes, so no movies – just a TV show
Photos: Approximately 1500 at a resolution of 10 megapixels
Music: Around 1 hour of music at 128 Kbps clarity
Why You Need an SD Card:
SD cards are great small portable memory cards with no moving parts, so less chance of breaking and losing your data. SD cards are used for personal computers, laptops, tablets, cameras, and some newer camcorders among other electronic gadgets.
In the end
I find Lexar products to be excellent based on my personal use and their price point which is usually below other name brand equivalents. Just remember that low class ratings on an SD card limit its cross platform usability. I therefore give a 4 star to the product but I do not recommend buying such a low class card.
