| rainbowcharmer's Full Review: LG CHOCOLATE VX8500 Cell Phone |
When the LG Chocolate phones came out, I was extremely excited about their sleek design, yummy colors and the fact that it was an LG. I've been a firm LG believer for quite a number of years now, and this phone was meant to be my next escapade into LG Bliss.
Well, it hasn't worked out so well.
I signed up for my "new every two" and ordered my LG Strawberry Chocolate phone on Verizonwireless.com, and anxiously awaited its arrival. The phone came in a few days later. I activated it, charged it up as instructed and downloaded my favorite ring-tones and of course Tetris (who can live without it??).
The phone was beautiful - a lovely shade of shocking pink that matched me quite well. That's about the only good thing I can come up with to say about the phone though.
A variety of problems plagued my beautiful pink phone. The buttons were either too sensitive (when attempting to flip through menu items, it would jump around erratically), or not sensitive enough (pushing the send button would sometimes take 3 or 4 tries before it would realize I was attempting to place a call). I tried adjusting the sensitivity, but no matter which setting I had it at, it was problematic.
The number buttons are also painful. They are far too small for someone with normal sized fingers. The outer buttons aren't TOO bad since you can push with half your finger on the button and half off the edge of the phone, but the middle buttons become problematic. Especially for a texting fiend like myself.
Beyond the design faults, there are obviously some serious flaws in the software of the phones too.
I am currently on phone # 5 since I purchased the original about 8 months ago. A 1-2 month average lifespan on these units is pretty horrid.
I will take the blame for one of the phones (I sent it swimming on accident), but the others have been all issues with the phone itself.
Phone # 1 - The charging port went bad and would no longer allow the phone to charge. Store replaced with a new phone. Phone # 2 - My fault - sent it swimming (replaced through Asurion insurance program) Phone # 3 - Possessed... Randomly called people when I wasn't even anywhere near the phone, and would not stop scrolling through menus when I would attempt to use it. If I went to my contact list and hit the down arrow once it would just start scrolling. I could not call anyone that way. I actually had to dial the numbers to use the phone. (Phone replaced through Asurion since it was within the 30 day warranty period) Phone # 4 - Overheated and ruined the software. I was reading a text message and all the sudden the phone got VERY hot (hot enough that had to put it down) and the screen went blank. I took the battery out and called Verizon with a land line phone. They recommended bringing it into the store. Brought it in and it was proclaimed dead. (Replaced by verizon store with a RED phone because no pinks were available and I did not want to have to wait 3 days to get the correct color - I have no other phone other than at work and did not feel comfortable without a means of communication). Of course when getting the replacement, I had to keep my old battery - they would not give me a red battery, so now I have a red phone with a pink battery. It looks pretty silly, but for now at least it works.
Phone # 5 - Well... I have my fingers crossed that it will survive until my contract is up.
