Cons: It is a little expensive for an electric dryer.
The Bottom Line: This is a great electric dryer with lots of features and good looks. We particularly like it paired with the matching LG washing machine.
We bought this electric dryer from BestBuy (along with the matching washing machine) back in April 2007 to replace our older Kenmore Calypso washer and dryer.
In particular, the matching LG Washer and Dryer were suggested to us by the BestBuy sales person, and we were very glad that they did.
Features
This dryer is a front loading model with a door that opens to the right (not downward like so many other models). I suspect this was partially done so that the dryer would match the front loading washer that it can be paired with. I find this type of door opening makes it easier to load and unload the dryer.
The dryer also has a stainless steel drum and super large 7.3 cubic foot capacity.
The dryer also has a moisture sensor so that your clothing will not get over dried (heat damaged).
The door is adjustable and it can be mounted for a left or right opening. This is a great feature as it allows you to accommodate the location and door opening on your washing machine.
The dryer has a raised control panel along the back (typical of traditional home dryers). There control panel follows a pretty intuitive layout (although the amount of drying options is a bit daunting). On the right side of the panel is a Cycle select dial where you can specify the nature of the items you want to dry (e.g., towels, delicates, permanent press, heavy duty, or normal). Along the bottom of the control panel are several buttons that allow you to specify things like dryness level, heat, drying time, buzzer loudness. Above each of these buttons is a little illuminated scale that allows you to adjust the various things by repeatedly pressing a button. On the left side of the control panel there are buttons for several drying options like wrinkle care, rack dry, more drying time, less drying time, etc. You can select multiple options for a single drying load. The control panel also has a timer to indicate the amount of time remaining in the drying cycle.
There is also a little warning light on the control panel to remind you to clean the lint filter. The lint filter is just inside the door (as is common on most dryers) and it is easily removed, cleaned, and replaced.
The dryer also comes with the typical drying rack for drying shoes or other heavy items.
Also when buying this dryer from BestBuy, we needed to specify the type of plug configuration we had (either 3 prong or 4 prong). This plug was then included with the dryer at delivery time. I do not know if this is something that is particular to the area I live in, but I was surprised at this as I have owned several dryers over the years and don't recall having to worry about the plug type.
LG does not recommend using any of the foil type dryer vent pipes. So you may need to buy a metal type dryer vent pipe to hook up your dryer. I found this out after we had the dryer delivered (but the installer did not mention this, I read it in the manual).
General Use
The large capacity of this dryer is great. With our washer and dryer pairing (we bought the LG WM0642H washer which looks nearly identical to the dryer) we can typically run one load through the dryer for every two loads we run through the washer.
Also, because the washer can spin dry the clothes so thoroughly, the dryer really does not have to run too long with our setup.
The only minor annoyance I have noticed is that once in a while a load (usually of jeans) may come out a little more damp than you like. This can be quickly remedied with a minor adjustment to the drying cycle and then putting the damp items through again. This is a very minor inconvenience and we usually just let the clothes sit out to air dry.
Conclusion
We are really very happy with this electric clothes dryer and I would say it is the best we have ever owned. It does a great job of drying clothes and we have never had any clothing damaged due to excessive drying heat or the drying action.
We particularly like it paired with the matching washing machine.
As an electric clothes dryer goes it is a little toward the expensive side, but it does seem to be good quality for the money.
