The 2300W was a decent phone. It had good phone reception and looked pretty good at the time. However, it did have a lack of features that was making the phone feel dated as the newer phones like the Audiovox 9000 came out into the marketplace.
LG has responded with their new entry level phone, the SP-110. It is currently being sold exclusively through MCI direct and it has many new features that the 2300W lacked.
While the phone is Internet capable, MCI did not want this feature, because they wanted to keep this phone cheap (they sell it for $39.99).
It is about 10% smaller than the 2300W, but still feels solid like the previous generation phone. It is also about 30% lighter as well. At 3.9 oz, it is one of the lightest flip phones in the marketplace.
However, that doesn't mean the screen is smaller, because it's not. It has a slightly smaller screen and it's a graphic LCD. It is lightyears better than those dot matrix like screens seen on the Q860 and the Nokia 6185.
It also has the new style phone book that many manufacturers are coming out with. It is a 199 name phone book, but stores 5 numbers per name. That's almost 1000 numbers!
It also has other (now) industry standards such as Data/Fax transfer, Caller Sound ID, Integrated Earjack and Intelligent PC Sync. Other cool technical features include "3 Step Variable Vibration" and "Audio Gain Control" (which will automatically increase the volume if the receiver's volume output is low).
If connecting to the internet is of no interest to you, try this phone. However, if you need the net, Verizon will be selling a dual mode version of the phone called the V111 (DM-110) that will have addition features such as an Internet Browser and 2 way Short Messaging Service.
Excellent Next generation phones at yesterday's prices. It just goes to show you that new technology does not necessarily mean higher prices.
