Pros: Large capacity, bottom freezer.
Cons: Too many to list....see narrative.
Where do I even begin with how bad this refrigerator is?
The problems began with the meat drawer cracking. LG replaced the whole shelf assembly (it has since cracked again and is not covered under my extended warranty through the retailer). The next thing was the icemaker not shutting off and overflowing. It was replaced under the extended warranty. Then we got an error code on the display and the icemaker wouldn't make ice at all. Turned out that the fan that blows cold air from the freezer into the icemaker was frozen solid in a block of ice behind the rear freezer wall. The fan and wall were both replaced. Within an hour the error code reappeared, and it turned out the circuit board was damaged. We then found out that LG had cheated on their energy star rating for this refrigerator, and were forced by the government to make restitution to consumers with this model. LG was supposed to contact consumers, but obviously didn't because I had to contact them long after the settlement of the government suit against LG. LG made an initial payment of about $75. for past energy usage, and now they send me a small check every so often for future energy usage. They also had to come and replace the circuit board which was redesigned. After that, the plastic crisper hinge pin that holds the crisper drawer in place snapped off. Next, the roller that supports the crisper drawer broke off one of the drawers, and within a month the second drawer roller also broke off. The extended warranty doesn't cover broken parts, and LG won't do anything because the initial warranty is expired. The latest malfunction was the inside door to the icemaker froze solidly and couldn't be opened. The serviceman had to use a heat gun to thaw out the latch.
This refrigerator is poorly made with flimsy plastic parts that break. The design is poor, and food constantly freezes in the refrigerator, even though the temp. cannot be set any higher or it won't keep milk.
WARNING: LG does NOT stand behind its products, and once the warranty is up you are on your own. Had I not purchased an extended warranty, I would have paid out hundreds...or more likely thousands of dollars in service calls and parts. When it breaks again after the extended warranty expires, I'll park this piece of %^&* at the curb where it belongs. I will NEVER again purchase ANYTHING that LG makes.
If ever there was a company that deserves to have a class action lawsuit brought against them for a faulty product, it is LG.
PS. I'm still waiting for the interior light to stay on and melt out the interior of the refrigerator, like has happened to so many other people. The repairman are all familiar with this, and told us it's just a matter of time before that happens. I'm just hoping my house doesn't burn down when it happens.
