nieman46804's Full Review: LG SteamWasher WM2688H Front Load
After 10 years with a Kenmore (Whirlpool) top loader we were ready for an upgrade. Frankly, I was a little put off by the very high prices of the front loaders, but after reading a number of reviews in consumer reports, we decided to take the plunge. One consideration for the front loader was the indication that they were more gentle on clothes. I wear Dockers pants for work and they seemed to fade and fray fairly regularly in the old unit. After purchase (hopefully not jinxing it) we could not be more pleased. The unit seems to do an outstanding job of cleaning, is much easier on clothes, and uses substantially less water than the prior unit (we definitely noticed the difference on our water bill). There are a ton of gadgets on the washer, not all of which we use, and you can even get a wireless reporting add on that will alert you in another room for $100. (This would perhaps be viable if it were a simple battery wireless receiver but it has to be plugged in and seemed to be a hassle, so we returned it). Understand that you will only get so much of a deal on this unit. We received 2 year free financing, a rebate, and free delivery/pickup and that's about as good as you'll get. Still, we are not the least bit dissatisfied. Hopefully it will stand the test of time, but with the build quality indications (porcelin top, stainless steel drum, direct drive so no belts to replace) I'm hopeful.
