“Touchable Voyage” or “Lost Touch”?
Everybody today probably uses a cell phone, and we all know the different varieties of cell phones out there. Recently, Verizon Wireless came out with their new touch screen phones—which seem like a technological marvel. I have been a cell phone user for many years, used many different phones, from flip-phones, open faced phones, even track phones. When I first heard about these new phones I was very excited about this new communication device. It was unlike anything that had been presented to the cell phone community before, which made me raise an eyebrow in curiosity. So I thought I would take a chance of this new piece of genius. Then I got the new Verizon Voyager touch screen phone and even though at first I had fallen in love I soon found I had started my voyage blind. Even though the phone was very sleek and fun, I discovered that my new impressive phone was an ergonomic disaster.
Pros
Before I got my Voyager I desperately need a new phone, and this new touch screen technology seemed promising. So I got the new phone with high hopes. When I got the phone, man was I impressed. It was gorgeous. It was shiny sleek and thin. I loved its appearance, but what about its features? The voyager has many great exciting features, such as its main front screen which is touchable and has no keys. Also, it’s internal keyboard of numbers and letters which is great for those, like me, who love to text. This was a very impressive feature, almost even more so than that of the touchable screen in the front. Another amazing feature was the phones MP3 music storage ability. I was able to download and store some of my favorite songs on my phone, which was really cool! Along with the phones awesome touch screen, reliable keyboard style internal key pad, and music storing abilities, the Voyager was always able to find service almost anywhere I went. All cell phone users would agree that having good service is important. I believe most would count on that from their new cellular device. Another great feature that was very impressive was the amount of storage memory that was available for the texting inbox. I could have over two hundred text in my phone and never have to worry about my phone’s inbox filling up while having a conversation. Therefore making me stop and erase my previous messages and waiting for the block message to finally appear, which can be a nuisance. I was certainly impressed with my new masterpiece of a cell phone… at first.
Cons
Now even though I was totally “in love” with my phone at first, as time went on I soon began to despise this new technological “marvel.” Most people always seem to “judge a book by its cover” and what a mistake I had made. I soon found my gorgeous new beauty of a phone was a bipolar, indecisive, glitching disaster. The Voyager definitely fit the cliché “looks can be deceiving”. I soon found my phone always seemed to turn itself off, I would pull my phone out of my pocket and see my phone had turned off. I had no idea how long it could have been off for. That worried me. What if I had missed an important call or I had been hurt and needed help? What would I do then? This became very frustrating to me. Then, to add to my phone constantly turning off unexpectedly, it seem like the battery needed to be continuously charged. I could have my phone on for one day, and never touch it and it would need to be charged that night, and that was very inconvenient. I hated having to worry about my phones battery life and if it would make it through the day. My girlfriend who even had the phone agrees with me, the Voyager even though it was sleek and cool, and all cool features aside, it became an unreliable mess. Another unreliable thing about the Voyager reared its ugly face early. The touch screen was an Achilles’ heel in its own right. Even when I would try to call someone using the main screen, it didn’t matter which button I would try to press, it always seemed to output the wrong number or letter. For instance, I would try to press a 3 and it would give me a 6, or some other number that I didn’t want. What a pain! I couldn’t believe the disappointment; I was so excited for my new piece of technological genius, and I got a giant piece of junk.
In Conclusion
The Voyager was a new exciting learning experience. I definitely learned not to “judge a book by its cover” and to trust reliability rather than looks. Most cell phone user, including me, likes luxury in their cellular device of choice and enjoys feeling good about how cool their phone looks. I wouldn’t use or recommend the Voyager to any user nor would I ever get another one. Even after all its attractive hooks: the touch screen, the internal keypad, the memory capabilities, reliable signal, and music storage, its bad ergonomic features: the poor battery life, glitching screen, unexpected shut downs, and constant worrying just outweighed attractive features. So if you’re a daring and brave cell phone user, looking for a physically cool phone, then the voyager is for you, but I urge you with EXTREME CAUTION, reconsider. Stick to the less attractive somewhat boring flip phones, or open-faced that we’re all used to and get something reliable. That way you no longer have to worry about those little glitches that could one day become a big problem and possibly cost you something. And in all honesty, I was never as happy as I was when my “marvel” a.k.a. the Voyager finally broke.
