| DenimDude's Full Review: LG WM2277 Front Load Washer |
The LG2277 washer has fixed some problems that had become associated with its counterpart competitor, the Duet (HT).
How did I go from owning a Duet(HT) to a LG 2277 washing machine? Circumstances dictated a major move to Florida. I had to leave the Duets behind. Now that I sit squarely as a resident in South Florida, the new LG 2277 Front-loading, Energy Efficient washing machine, has taken root, as well.
First off: The LG 2277 Tromm Washing Machine doesn't (him & haw) when it comes to spinning. Once it obtains a balance for a spin, it doesn't stop & drop it; having to to start over the way our Duet did. Most all loads, with the exception of single item, and a rare occurrence of an entanglement issue, -spin exceptionally well. When they don't, you simply can rearrange the load on those extremely rare instances, and set the machine to spin again.
Second: The LG2277 has roller balls in the baffles that gently glide through the clothes to make them flip, splash, and fall into the thermistor-controlled soapy water, below. The Duet had baffles that would become easily scratched, leaving rough surfaces that would pass over the clothes, possibly, in my mind, wearing them out, sooner.
The thermistor keeps the water temperature at the optimum level, turning on a heater for enhanced stain removal, on select cycles. After a short while, a waterfall of re-circulated water sprays over the clothes with a portion of it running down the right portion of the big, glass window.
Third: There is a water sensor in the sump (where the wash water pools), and when draining, a short burst of fresh water flows in to wash out the residual soap from the lines, in an instant.
Fourth: There is no Direct-Injection, soap-dispensing system like the Duets have. This means there is much less chance of having an over-filled bleach dispenser dispense itself directly onto your clothes. On initial fill, there are short bursts of water to let the possibility of a spill run down directly into the sump, bypassing the clothes, altogether. You can see a tiny bit of water coming through the lower left, rear portion of the drum when the pulsing is through, and water is being fed into the machine, full force. (The water inlet is between the inner and outer drums of the machine.) Water rises, ever so slightly, and remains as a tiny pool in the bottom of the washer. Delicate cycles use more water, water that rises to near-the-bottom of the double-hinged door.
5th: This machine is direct-drive, meaning no belts -like the counterpart Duet uses. I did notice that the drum is not as deep as the Duet, and the overall capacity is a tad smaller. With the motor being directly behind the drum, one hears it "whir" a little more that what one would hear if using a Duet. It is however, pleasant, and the machine, as a whole, seems to spin more quietly and with much less vibration than the Duet, though spinning just as fast, if not, faster.
6th: Horsepower: This direct-drive motor is a workhorse, akin to its competitor's belt-driven version. The water pump is definitely quieter and much more robust sounding than the Duet's water pump sounded. The Duet water pump sounds tinny, not so with the LG 2277 Water Pump. It sounds good, and is rather quiet in water re-circulation mode. (The Duets don't have a water recirculation mode.) It, the pump, does not stay on needlessly the way the Duet's pumps seem to do, most all the time. The machine will have the pump come on when the RPM's of the drum have fallen, just after spinning, allowing the water droplets that were pushed up and around the outer-tub from the rush of the the spinning and its whirring air, to settle down and be pumped out at the end of the cycle.
The LG 2277 thinks of everything. It remembers your favorite cycle, and it remembers the "End of Cycle" sound settings from the previous cycle, and applies this sound, 'Volume' setting, to the next.
Holding the "Temperature" button during operation displays the water temperature in Celsius, during a wash cycle, so you can see the built-in heater is working....helping to sanitize or to remove stains.
Quick cycles do the basic washer operations, perhaps leaving one of the several front-load rinse cycles out for those time when, you don't really care to have multiple rinses, you just want the clothes to be clean,...NOW!
Enjoy. LG 2277 Tromm Washer. Its a Hoot!
