drm814's Full Review: LG WM3431 Front Load All-in-One Washer / Dryer
After two years of hauling my laundry to the mat, a friend mentioned this unit to me two Saturdays ago. This Saturday my LG arrived and Im truly ecstatic.
I read all the reviews on this site and found them to be quite accurate. Im in a co-op with no hook-ups and nowhere to vent so this is the perfect solution for my Laundromat blues.
The unit is nice looking and makes my kitchen look great! You can do a wash only for those things that you dont dry in about a ½ hour and throw in your next load.
Hard facts: Some things werent clear to me so Ill clarify those spots I had. The converter for your sink at $79.95? Not necessary. By reading the reviews, it seems the machine will shake all over the place. I bought those furniture movers that look like big coasters and put them under the legs. They are white, matched my unit and cost $10 for a set of eight. The adapter for the sink was another thing. I have a spray/faucet so I didnt know if I could hook it up. I took the sprayer to a plumbing supply store and they fit me with an extended washer to hold the Y adapter and the splitter for $10 bucks. I didnt have to level the machine either so for $20 I was getting my wash on in about ten minutes. No the machine didnt shake around so I didnt have to get a rubber mat.
The machine has all these nice blue and gold lights on the front and little sounds like the airport slots in Vegas. I dont know about you, but Im into gadgets and this one is hot.
I plugged it in and just knew I would blow my lights out as my microwave along with the wrong light shuts my place down. The machine runs smooth without even dimming a light in a regular outlet.
I tried a few varieties of wash cycles, Wash only, wash to dry, dry only. I found a set of Queen Sheets fit perfectly as did four towels and washcloths with my dishtowels. No problem, wash and dry. Yes when you take the clothes out they are strangely moist but a shake and they are dry.
Please secure your drain hose so that doesnt fly around. The pressure of the water draining for the rinse is quite strong. The machine is soooo quiet. You can hear the spin but for a few minutes only. The various selections generally tell you how many minutes you have for your total cycle. However, on occasion I find the time disappears during the dry cycle as the sensor must reduce the time. Also, I threw in some of those dryer balls and those cut my dry time down considerably. I just put them in at the beginning of the wash.
I like to read so Ill mention that I only saw this once on a review. THERE IS A PUMP DRAIN ON THE BOTTOM LEFT OF THE MACHINE!!!! Read your manual and see how to empty it. After about five loads I decided to see how much water came out and Id say about a ½ gallon came out. The unit does not specify the capacity of that tank but I wouldnt ignore it.
OH my bells are ringing!!! My sheets are dry .brb. Ok, the comments about the lock on the door after the dry cycle is dry. Stop. Its what? Two minutes and to me, well worth avoiding burning my hands off. Just hit the power button and it will unlock for you. I unhooked my hoses from the faucet and shook out the water and then opened the door. I again checked the drain pump; about 3 cups of water came out. Id suggest this after finishing all your loads for the day to avoid some type of flood.
Overall, I cannot find any issues. So my flannel sheets just took four hours? I care? Its snowing outside and Im inside. I can tell that Ill be doing my laundry at night to avoid tying up the sink. The machine tosses your clothes every few minutes for a few hours to avoid wrinkles which are not all that bad. Besides, I have an iron and again, Im indoors.
I got my LG for a great price, If youre in the NYC area ask me Ill tell ya how. I got a 5 year warranty for it as well for $159 bucks.
February, 2008...clothes aren't drying.
Seems as though after my wash cycle, the dryer runs for about 25 minutes and then rings as if the cycle is complete and the clothes are dry. (Of course they are not!)
I called the LG center who sent out a repairman who looked at my machine as if it fell out of the sky who then proceeded to open it up and look around, close it up and leave. "Someone will call you." Comforting.
So, I came on Epinions and read a review about cleaning out the lint that accumulates in the machine and called for another repairman. I showed him the review and voila! (Thanks to the guy that wrote that!). There was a HUGE hunka lint in that thing. About two handfuls. Seems as though the lint blocks the flow of hot air into the dryer and also the blocks the sensor. After that was removed, my clothes dry much faster! I guess over time it had slowed down, but who is waiting around watching??
My advice, around 9mts in, call for service and have them clean out the lint chute and all will be well. I LOVE my washer/dryer still!!!!
