mpedersen's Full Review: LG WM3431 Front Load All-in-One Washer / Dryer
Take a good look at the positive reviews written...it seems most of them are within a couple months of purchase. THEN look at the negative reviews and you'll start to realize...this thing will break down!
I don't think I need to say much other than to echo all the bad reviews here. We got this as part of a condo rehab. It was really "cool" when we first used it. We soon realized that the capacity was limited...means we have to run it a lot for only two people. But hey, it's better than going to the laundrymat or paying someone to do the laundry for us, right. We lived OK with the fact that we have to run this several times per week and there's always a backlog of laundry.
However, Our first unit failed, started having drying issues after about 8 months of use. Same problem as everyone else...slowly starts drying less and less, and if running on an automatic setting (i.e. "more"), initially it will say it needs to run for something like 3:56, and then mysteriously it will stop in the drying cycle after only 5-10 minutes! There were multiple service calls on the first one and ultimately LG replaced our dryer with a new one in January '07.
So we're on #2....guess what's happening now after 10 months...our clothes come out "damp" at best, even if running this thing on the time based drying for multiple cycles (i.e. 6 hours of drying time!!). More often, the clothes are simply hot, steamy and wet. We're right back where we were this time last year.
With 2 units failing in the same way for us personally, and finding multiple reviews here that cite the same problem, I can hardly recommend this product to anyone. Look for the review written by leftoverpasta (http://www0.epinions.com/content_240366358148), which includes a detailed description of their identical problem and a possible solution (since we're still under warranty we'll probably have a tech guy come out and explicitly ask him to look at this).
If this is a lint issue collecting in the condesor, the only thing I can add is that WE have a dog (and used to have a cat too) that produce tons of hair - the inner rubber ring (only thing that really acts like a "lint trap") is constantly coated in dog hair following a wash (which I have to simply rub out with my hands...kinda gross). I wonder if the folks who are having this problem have animals running around their homes too. I'm sure it doesn't help the lint-clog issue...

I needed to come back with some followup - my wife informed me that our neighbors upstairs ALSO have this model. It turns out that they too have had the very same issue; a repairman came out, took their unit apart, and pulled out "the most disgusting thing they'd ever seen", a massive wet glop of lint and hair. The worst part was that they were outside of the warranty, so this service set them back $300!
With the Thanksgiving holidays, we haven't yet been able to get someone out to service our unit, and since this sounds like it's going to be a recurring thing, I suppose I'll have to roll up my sleeves and figure out how to do this myself!
