A GREAT phone, although I could think of a few ways to improve it

Pros: Full keypad, great navigation system, easy to use
Cons: Not great with email/internet, small inbox for texting
The Bottom Line: Great phone for the basics, looks cute too. If email is a huge priority, though, get a Blackberry!

| beeda338's Full Review: LG enV VX9900 Smartphone |
I'll start this off by saying that since buying my first phone with a QWERTY keypad (the V...enV's predecessor), I will never go back to your regular cell again. If you are a texter, this phone is perfect. I've been marveled at plenty of times for how fast I text; but it's just because I've had a phone with a keypad for a couple years now. One thing that will annoy frequent texters is that the inbox and outbox both only hold 50 messages. This can get annoying, as you will constantly be deleting messages and/or clearing out your whole inbox. Of course, right after I bought this model, Verizon released the env2 which apparently has an inbox capable of holding 300 messages. Sigh.
The camera is 2.0 megapixels and pictures come out pretty decent. Camera phones have come a LONG way. This model also has a little slip cover that protects the lens from getting scratched. If you flip the phone open when you take a picture, there is an option that allows you to turn on the front display at the same time (useful if you are taking a picture of yourself). You can also adjust brightness, use a flash and self timer, night mode, and change resolution. There are also built in color effects and an auto focus. Not bad.
This phone also takes video, which I haven't used much but it holds 30 seconds at a time.
One thing that annoyed me about the V and that is fixed with the enV is that almost all options that you can use with the phone open can also be used when its closed. For example, you had to open up the phone to set an alarm on the old version...not on this one.
As for the internet, don't buy this phone if you want all the bells and whistles. It is VERY scaled down internet and the email isn't that great either. You can access your mail and all that, but it's not very advanced. You probably want to stick with a Blackberry if that's a huge concern. You can use common IM clients like AIM, MSN and Yahoo on this as well. Again, it's scaled down. The only one I've really messed with is AIM and you can't read people's profiles or away messages. You can basically just IM.
The phone includes some trial versions of games, but none actually come fully loaded onto the phone. That is crap in my opinion. They let you buy it, but you'd think after spending the money on the phone they could at least spring for a game or two included.
One of the best things about this phone is the navigation option. Having recently moved into a new area, I use the navigation very frequently. Of course you can use VZ Navigator on most of Verizon's newer phones but the larger internal display screen makes it clearer than some of the other phones. It has truly been a lifesaver for me. Yes, you do have to pay extra to use it (2.99 per use, or $10 a month). Hey, nothing's free these days.
All in all, there could be some improvements but the phone itself is very useful if your main needs are making voice calls, texting, taking pictures, and navigation. If email is a huge deal to you, look elsewhere!
