| pitfaltina's Full Review: LITTLEST PET SHOP Pet Pairs (Snail and Puppy) |
My daughter is a devout collector of the Littlest Pet Shop toys. Her closet is currently inhabited by over 150 of the little beasts. She always needs to have the "unique" animals, though, which is very problematic as the "unique" pets are always the hardest ones to find. It took Mommy three consecutive weeks of prowling about the 10 local toys stores and departments to snag the Snail and Puppy Pet Pairs set. (I won't even bore you with the odyssey I had to undertake to get the chinchilla and the sugar glider!)
Littlest Pet Shop Pet Pairs by themselves have next to no play value. They're like the Smurfs from my childhood...a vinyl figurine that's fun to collect, but you can't do much with them unless you collect piles of them and add $100 worth of playsets. Littlest Pet Shop toys, however, add the fun of magnets and bobbleheads that make them such a hit with the kindergarten set.
The snail, which my daughter cleverly named "Shelly" on the Littlest Pet Shop website, is absolutely freaking ADORABLE. "Shelly" is just under two inches tall with a lavender body, light blue back, and iridescent green shell. She has a pink belly, blue eyes, and pearlized lilac antennae. She has a magnet on her base at the front just under the belly. My daughter, for some odd reason, thinks that magnet designates "Shelly" an honorary spider and "Shelly" is usually to be found hanging out with "Webby" the spider on her web. Can you tell my daughter picks these names? The ones Mommy names have been given monikers like "Scout", "Pom Pom", and "Twitchy". The ones dear daughter names get saddled with "Blacky", "Pinky", and "Buzz". (And I give you one guess as to what kind of animal "Buzz" is!) Ahhh, the limited naming abilities of a kindergarten kid!
The puppy, who has been blessed with the title of "Barky", is also super-cute. He is a 2 inch tall white puppy with brown patches and a brown ring around one eye. (Why wouldn't she let me name it "Bandit"? That would have been so great!) "Barky" comes with a bright yellow vinyl rain hat that fits just perfectly over his ears, and a tiny little yellow umbrella with a pink handle. "Barky" can't hold the umbrella, and he wears a rain hat, so I'm not sure why "Barky" needs an umbrella in the first place. "Barky" usually shares his umbrella with "Slinky" the ferret, who can't hold it either. "Barky" has a magnet in his right front paw, which is convenient for opening the door the doghouse where he hangs out with all the other pooches.
Both "Shelly" and "Barky" have bobbleheads like all the rest of the Littlest Pet Shop line. They are both very easy to clean with a damp cloth. For paranoid moms worried about the recent magnets-in-toys scare and subsequent recall, don't worry. Not one of the Littlest Pets that inhabit our home has EVER had a magnet come loose, and we've been collecting and playing hard with them for three years now.
I paid $3.99, and I don't feel it was money that was wasted. My one complaint with this toy is WHY DO THE UNUSUAL PETS HAVE TO BE SO HARD TO FIND?!?!
