My last trip to the local LUSH store was quite some time ago. I think it’s been about 2.5 years actually. Wow, I’m really due to visit them again ASAP. Anyway, I went in there with the intention of buying a gift card for a friend who had just had a baby. I walked out with a gift card for my friend and many products for myself. One of those products was Lush’s Big Calm Shower Jelly.

Product Information

Lush’s Shower Jelly’s are far different from any other bath/shower product out there. They are basically the consistency of Jell-O. They come in a plastic container that looks like something you’d put leftovers in. And like many Lush products they are sold by weight – like produce. So how much you pay depends upon how big of a slice/chunk you buy. Lush’s Big Calm Shower Jelly is a clear turquoise blue and pale opaque blue. It smells like the most amazing drink you could have brought to you from a cabana boy while relaxing on the beach.

My Experience

Visiting a Lush store is a bit overwhelming. I had read several reviews on Epinions about their Shower Jelly’s and knew I wanted to try them out. That only left me figuring out which scent I wanted. I choose Big Calm for its pineapple, coconut, nirvana of a scent. It basically smells like a tropical paradise. The scent is strong, but I think that’s true of pretty much all of Lush’s products.

With Lush’s Shower Jelly’s you can keep them in the fridge or freezer. I’ve tried both and also left it out (since it does not tend to get super hot here). Of those three options I have to say that it’s definitely easier to get a chunk of it to use if it’s from the freezer. Otherwise it is like trying to scoop or grasp Jell-O which is not an easy task. At least for me, using it straight from the freezer it does not feel super cold once it’s all mashed into my bath pouf. That said I generally used it at room temperature simply because I didn’t like having to deal with going to the freezer for my body wash before I showered each morning. I may love bath and beauty products but I am not all about taking forever to get ready each day.

I would just put a small amount onto my bath pouf for each use. About the size of a dime I guess. That’s all I needed. Supposedly you can use it without a bath pouf but I can see lots of product getting wasted that way. It’s like Jell-O, remember? Once Lush’s Big Calm Shower Jelly was broken up into my bath pouf the huge amounts of delightfully scented lather would show up. This product definitely brings the bubbles! And the smell! Wow! My entire bathroom would smell like a tropical mix of fruit and coconut for the rest of the day. My nose is pretty sensitive to scents so I could easily smell Lush’s Big Calm Shower Jelly on my skin for a full day after using it. You may or may not smell it for that long.

I’ve found Lush’s Big Calm Shower Jelly to rinse easily and cleanly off my skin leaving my skin feeling soft and smooth. I would not say my skin felt super hydrated after using this product, but it certainly wasn’t drying.

If the thought of a Shower Jelly intrigues you I recommend you try one. There really is nothing quite like it. For the most part though I prefer a normal shower gel or cream as it’s less messy and just quicker and easier to use. Lush’s Big Calm Shower Jelly, at least for me, is more for days when I have more time to shower than usual and really need a good pick me up from that amazing scent.
