I had the chance to thoroughly try out this LUSH Fresh Face mask when Epinions member, Njchicaa took a trip to the local LUSH store and shared with me. LUSH only sells their BIO-Fresh masks in their brick & mortar stores since they are made with fresh ingredients.
About LUSH Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask
Brazened Honey is a bio-fresh face mask that sells for around $10 for approximately 6-10 masks (or so, depending how thick you apply it). The product has a shelf life of around 3 weeks so once you purchase it you need to not only keep it in your refrigerator but plan to use it all up or toss it out. Brazened Honey is formulated for all skintypes and is made to soothe and detoxify tired (weary) skin. The main ingredients are kaolin clay, honey, lime juice, almond shells and "spices".
My Experience
To me, LUSH Brazened Honey face mask looks like thick dijon mustard. Its a dark yellow color with brown flecks in it (the ground almond shells). But what jumped out more than the odd color was the scent of this mask. Njchicaa said she thought it smelled like marigolds and I was thinking more like sunflowers but I think it was the yellow color that threw me off. Neither flower is listed as an ingredient in this mask, however if I had to pick now what I really think it smells like....I have to say nasty dandelions or other pesky wildflower/weeds. I don't care for products that are floral at all, so this wasn't winning with me!
Of course even though I couldn't stand the scent I put it on my face... more than once even. Brazened Honey is a thick mask - not quite as thick as Cupcake.. but much thicker than Crash Course in Skincare or BB Seaweed. This is one where I recommend applying it and then removing it in the shower to cut down on the mess. I wish I could smell the honey in this one, but I didn't - instead I had to deal with the floral stink for 5-10 minutes before heading to rinse it off.
Here's where things got worse for me. I'm all about an invigorating body scrub but I don't want to feel like I am scrubbing my face off. Unfortunately for me, this mask is way too course on my skin and the ground almond shells left my face red and irritated. So, I set out to detoxify, calm and soothe my skin and ended up making it really angry! And the fool that I am tried it again a few days later only to re-experience the same ouchy results.
On the upside, I tried a bit of this as a body scrub before I threw the remainder away and it worked much better in the shower as an exfoliating body scrub instead of as a face mask. Even further away from my nose though, I still found the scent overpowering and tossed the rest away.
No more Brazened Honey for me! No, Thanks!
