| shantel575's Full Review: Lush Candy Cane Bubble Bar |
I have been reading LUSH reviews here on Epinions for months now and I couldn't take it anymore. Those girls (you know who you are!) were leading me straight into temptation. I had to try this stuff for myself! I'm very skeptical of selecting scents and fragrances over the internet without having the luxury of sniffing them in person, but since there is no LUSH store anywhere near me, I didn't have a choice. So I did a ton of reading about the different bath products and the scents available on LUSH's website and I selected a few to give a try. One of the first ones I selected was the Candy Cane Bubble Bar.
LUSH is a manufacturer of mostly naturally made products and they are based mostly in the UK and Canada. Some stores have opened in the United States and I'm hoping one will open down here sometime soon! LUSH offers bath and body products, skincare, haircare and fragrance. Each product is freshly handmade, which is a unique concept in today's beauty industry. They now have a cult following and the stores and products are showing up all over the globe!
One of the products that LUSH makes is called a "Bubble Bar". Here's what LUSH has to say about the Bubble Bar (taken from website): "Bubble Bars are the first-ever solid bath foam. Our bubble bars are different in formulation than most commercial liquid bath foams as they don't contain preservatives, no harsh surfactants as they can irritate the skin, contain baking soda that will soften the water and they have cream of tartar to create the soft texture and slippy feeling in the bath."
The Candy Cane Bubble Bar came wrapped in clear plastic wrap and was quite large, about the size of my hand. Having read all the reviews I have, I knew that this would probably be big enough for 2 uses. The bar is pink and white striped and smells very sweet. I let it sit in my large bathroom for a couple of days before I indulged (I wanted to have enough time to really relax and enjoy it!) and boy did my bathroom smell good. When I was ready to use my bubble bar, I unwrapped it and followed these instructions: "Crumble our solid bubble (bath) bars under running water to create an enchanting and inviting tub full of soft luscious bubbles. One bubble bar can be divided into more than one piece for multiple baths."
Here's what LUSH has to say about this Candy Cane Bubble Bar, specifically: "If you get one of these in your stocking, don't chew on it, no matter how good it smells. Believe us, they do smell good. This is the Creamy Candy Bath dressed up for the party season, sweet as candy and twice as bubbly. Just the bath you need to get you ready to go out and have some fun. It's scented with delectable vanilla absolute, made from the pod of the exotic vanilla orchid. Whoever invented the phrase 'plain vanilla' didn't know what they were talking about. Vanilla is fabulous."
Not wanting to use up the whole bar in one bath, I broke half of it off and crumbled it into the running water in my large garden tub. The sweet, sweet fragrance immediately permeated the room even more than it already had, and here came the bubbles. I climbed in and let myself be enveloped in the frothy foam. I felt some of the smaller chunks of the bar in the bottom of the tub so I fished them out and rubbed them between my hands under the running water so that I got my money's worth. As the tub filled I decided I wanted more bubbles so I reached for the other half of the bar and crumbled it under the water too. My tub is quite large so I'm sure half of the bar would be plenty for a standard sized bathtub. But once I had the whole bar crumbled, I was thrilled with all the bubbles.
I hesitate to call the result "bubbles" because I've taken my fair share of bubble baths with the traditional bubble bath products that come in bottles and you squirt it into the bath water. Those are bubbles. This was froth and foam and bliss. With regular bubble bath type products, the bubbles only last a few minutes and then they dissipate. With this Bubble Bar, the foam STAYED put. I was in the tub for at least 45 minutes and I didn't notice a decrease at all. That is impressive!
The bath water felt silky smooth on my skin and the scent was wonderful. It was a very sweet scent that reminded me of pink Double Bubble Bubble Gum, but with more vanilla. It didn't smell at all like a minty candy cane, like I had hoped, but the scent was still wonderful. LUSH makes a lot of products that are more herbal and earthy type scents (jasmine, lavender, etc.) and I don't like those at all. I'm more into the foody type scents so this was perfect for me. My bathroom smelled like a sweets bakery! I do admit, even though I adore sweets and the smell of sweets, after an hour of this aroma I was starting to feel a little sick to my stomach. I'm sure this was multiplied by the fact that I used the ENTIRE bar in my bath and I was in there for quite a long time.
When I decided it was time to get out of the tub (before I shriveled up anymore!) I was pleased to find my skin feeling soft and silky smooth. I have very sensitive skin so I wasn't sure how I'd react to this frothy bath but thankfully I had no reactions to the product. The scent lingered on my skin for several hours, but it wasn't overpowering. It was faint, but noticeable. It wasn't bothersome at all.
The scent lingered in my bathroom for TWO whole days after my bath! After reading other reviews of the Bubble Bars, I fully expected the scent to last at least a day in there, but it lasted twice that long. I was, again, impressed. Everytime I walked into my bathroom for the next 2 days, I was reminded of my luscious bath experience and could only look forward to the next time.
The Candy Cane Bubble Bar was a limited edition holiday scent, but there are some available on Ebay. From reading the descriptions it looks like they have a few other products that are similar in scent to this one (the Creamy Candy Bubble Bar for example). If nothing else, I will have this one to look forward to next holiday if they re-introduce it. This bar retailed for about $6. To find out more about LUSH products, you can visit www.lush.com. Thanks for reading!
