jlhin's Full Review: LUSH Cosmetics Marzibain Bubble Bar
I have been a huge fan of LUSH products for quite some time now. My obsession started when I read a review of a LUSH product here on Epinions. Since then I have tried many of their products and admittedly become obsessed with them! Recently LUSH launched their Retro line, bringing back products that had been retired for some time. Included in that line up was the Marzibain Bubble Bar.
Cost & Location
I purchased my 3.5 oz LUSH Marzibain Bubble Bar from lush.com for $5.95. This product is not available in LUSH stores, it can only be purchased online.
The Details
If you aren't familiar with bubble bars, a bubble bar is a solid form of bubble bath that you simply crumble under running water. Give it a few good swishes and viola, you have tons of frothy, movie star bubbles.
LUSH Marzibain Bubble Bar is off white in color with an almond on top. It looks just like a little cake, and well, smells like it too! (Not that over the top sugary, rot your teeth out scent!) Marzibain smells just like the popular LUSH Snowcake Soap. LUSH claims it smells just like tasty almond pastries. It is a sweet scent, but not overwhelmingly so. It contains rose and fruit cassie as well, although my nose doesn't pick up those notes at all. I just get a sweet cake like scent. It's delicious!
As with all LUSH products, the Marzibain Bubble Bar contains all natural ingredients (ingredient list can be found at the bottom of the review) and is not tested on animals.
My Experience
I was familiar with LUSH's Snowcake Soap, so I didn't hesitate to order several Marzibain Bubble Bars. I loved the scent of the soap and relished the thought of a bubble bar scented the same way. When my box o' LUSH arrived, I was delighted that it did, indeed, smell just like Snowcake. It's a warm, sweet, delightful scent - and one that I just knew would be a heavenly bubble bath.
Crumbling it under running water, I eagerly anticipated that warm, delicious scent filling up my bathroom. Unfortunately that didn't happen. For some strange reason once this bubble bar hit the water, that heavenly scent just disappeared. Vanished. Gone. To say I was disappointed would be an understatement. I had hoped that it was just that particular bubble bar, but, alas, a couple of nights later I tried again, with the same results. No scent - nothing. From time to time, this happens with particular LUSH products. They smell wonderful when dry and then vanish when wet. It's odd, but not unusual.
As always, this bubble bar didn't disappoint in the bubble department. I pretty much always have excellent results as far as tons of bubbles go. An entire bar will give me bubbles that I can disappear under. What I love best is that the bubbles don't vanish in 15 minutes, they last! I love to linger and soak in the tub, sometimes 45 minutes to an hour (or whenever the water gets too cold!) and there are always tons of bubbles left when I get out.
A lot of LUSH Bubble Bars will turn the water beautiful colors, but, seeing as how Marzibain is, well, off white, there were no colors to be found.
This particular LUSH Bubble Bar isn't moisturizing - it contains no moisturizing ingredients. However, it isn't drying either. That's what I love about LUSH bubble bars, they never leave my skin dry or itchy.
Overall
While I absolutely adore the scent when it's dry, I just can't justify spending nearly $6.00 on a product that has no scent when it hits the water. So, unfortunately I can only give this product a mere 3 stars, and that's simply for the beautiful and long lasting bubbles.
