During my soon to be fabled Lush store visit last month, I picked up a bunch of free samples, including a small piece of Devil in the Dark soap. The minty scent of the soap seemed alright, although it sort of blended in with all the other smells in the shop. I was attracted to Demon in the Dark primarily because I thought it looked neat. Luckily, this was one of the times that judging a book by its cover paid off.
Claims from Lush: A fundamental part of the Lush minty collection, Demon in the Dark is a deep dark green soap with a fabulously minty scent. Fans of Stunning to look at, delightful to smell and a complete joy to wash with, our wicked green Demon in the Dark will tempt you back into the bathroom over and over. It's made with lashings of fresh mint and apple juice; it fires sharp peppermint and clove bud scents right up your nostrils and slaps your brain awake. By the by, the Chinese believe that clove buds increase yang energy and use them to treat impotence.
Appearance:
This soap looks so cool! It's a very dark, barely translucent green with mysterious appley splotches and a black wax coating. The coating is to keep the soap soft and fresh, and is easily peeled away. This one of a handful of Lush soaps that could be considered unisex, and definitely the most interesting looking one.
Scent:
Demon in the Dark has a smells like apples and mint -- spearmint and peppermint to be exact. It's a strong, fresh scent that lingers on the skin, but isn't overpowering.
Use:
This is one of the softer soaps. It has a very rich lather, but also has the potential to be a fast melter. It should be kept out of the water when it's not being used. It's a very refreshing soap to use; there's a cool, tingling sensation when you use it. This soap doesn't dry my skin, but isn't particularly moisturizing either.
Conclusions:
Demon in the Dark is a great bar of soap. It's fun to look at, smells great, and is a pleasure to use. If you like minty soaps, this is the way to go!
