lyoness913's Full Review: Lush Demon In the Dark Soap
Because I bought a hunk of LUSH Demon in the Dark Soap after drinking beer all day, and because I paid $13.86 for it, I *really* wanted to like it. I was frantically trying to finish up a massive purchase as the store was closing, and I couldn't remember whether dimeuhday had said that Demon was the soap that smelled like toothpaste. I thought to myself 'Oh, I might like it,' and so I grabbed up the hunk of green soap covered by black wax and took it home with me.
LUSH advocates peeling all of the black wax off the soap before using it. My giant square piece of soap was covered in a very thick layer of black wax. I very dutifully peeled off that was and threw it away, which was no small feat. I was looking forward to the smell of apples, as Demon is supposed to be infused with apple juice. I didn't smell any apples. I instead smelled a very masculine scent that reminded me of some kind of drug store product, I just couldn't figure out what. I thought maybe it would smell better without the wax! Yeah, that's it! That's why LUSH tells you to peel off the wax, because that's what makes all of the wonderful apples smell! Well, it was a good theory.
I bathed with LUSH Demon in the Dark Soap at night before bed and I didn't really like the smell so I covered myself in LUSH Karma Kream. I left the giant green brick out on the counter and the next morning, I knew what I smelled. CREST (the original scent) infiltrated my bathroom and entire upstairs. The scent is like smelling crest after someone has used entirely too much of it in one brushing and has spit it out. It's absolutley gut wrenching and horribly disgusting. The scent made me physically sick. THEN I remembered dimeuhday's review. I should have listened and remembered.
Here are the ingredients, taken from www.lush.com Sodium Palm Kernelate, Glycerin, Mint Infusion (Mentha piperita), Apple Juice, Sodium Stearate, Mint (Mentha piperita), Spearmint Oil (Mentha viridis), Clove Bud Oil (Eugenia caryophyllus), Peppermint Oil (Mentha piperita), Sodium Chloride, EDTA, Tetrasodium Editronate, Perfume, Gardenia Extract (Gardenia jasminoides), FD&C Blue No. 1
The lather factor is like most LUSH soaps, not spectacular but it will lather if you work at it. The lather is a greenish colour that will turn the water in your tub greenish yellow. (You shouldn't peel the black wax off in the tub because it won't go down the drain, it's better to throw it away). The staying power is longer than the pure glycerin soaps, this one has substance! I am not sure what the big yellow hunks in the soap are, but they look kind of like pieces of fruit. As far as the moisture factor, it didn't really moisturize my skin, nor did it dry my skin. The scent, however, sticks to you like crazy glue.
I don't know if I could recommend this to anyone, unless they like the smell of toothpaste. Maybe men might like the 'masculine' tone, I am not sure. I am sure of one thing, I spent a whole lot of money on something that I'll never use again, and that's kind of depressing!
