ms_pookie's Full Review: Lush Demon In the Dark Soap
My curiosity with LUSH soaps has been met with disappointment. I was hopeful that LUSH Demon in the Dark Soap would prove to be a better LUSH experience ...
The Product
LUSH Demon in the Dark Soap is one of the many handmade soaps available at LUSH. The soap retails for $7.60 for a 3.5 ounce bar and can be purchased on the LUSH website (www.lush.com) or at LUSH stores. The soap bar can be customized to any size and is sold by weight.

My Experience
The one word that comes to my mind when describing LUSH Demon in the Dark Soap is U-G-L-Y! It's one hideous looking slab of soap. It's mostly dark green with light green blobs inside of it with a black layer of wax covering the top of the soap. It's no wonder I didn't pay any attention to this ugly thing in the store. The saleslady steered me towards it; I was a bit hesitant about it but she raved about the soap and offered to cut a slice of it for me to sample.
I took my bit of Demon in the Dark Soap and unwrapped it to reveal its true ugliness. The black wax on the top was a bit perplexing. Seriously, what's the point of this black wax, LUSH? I peeled it off and threw it into the trash. The scent of the soap was intense! There's a heavy dose of mint mixed with a hint of apples. It's a odd but acceptable combination. I did like the intensity of the mint scent.
The Demon in the Dark Soap did not produce very much lather when I applied it directly to my skin. I wasn't surprised since the other two LUSH soaps that I've tried were poor lather producers as well. I find this to be disappointing as I like a good lather when I shower. Despite its average (at best) lather, I continued to use it. I did find some odd particles in the soap; one piece that I took from the chunk of soap looked to be a thorn, but it was not sharp or prickly. I'm not sure what it was and looking at the ingredient list, it doesn't seem as though there are any chunks of "stuff" that is added into the soap.
I didn't find the Demon in the Dark Soap to be drying on my skin. I didn't feel the itchiness that I did with the other LUSH soap that I had tried. My skin felt clean afterwards, but nothing remarkable. Sure, I enjoyed the minty scent of the soap during my shower, but the lather was disappointing and the look of the soap is disturbing. Would I purchase this soap in the future? No. The scent is nice, but I'll hunt for a minty scented body wash or soap that produces better lather and is more affordable.
Overall Thoughts
LUSH Demon in the Dark has an intense minty scent. Don't expect much in terms of lather or looks -- it's ugly.
