Pros: Pleasant enough smell, cute product.

The Bottom Line: Did anyone actually try this in the shower?

| chelledun's Full Review: Fairy Tale Sugar Scrub Personal Care |
LUSH products are a "love it or hate it" proposition, with different reviewers often taking opposing stances on the same product. This is typically because a particular product has a unique scent which is subject to personal preference. From time to time, though, LUSH pops out a product that is so poorly designed out that it is almost universally bemoaned. Regretfully, I predict that Fairy Tale Body Sugar Scrub will be such a product.
Product Information Fairy Tale Body Sugar Scrub is one of the few LUSH products which is intended for use in a shower. Inspired by sugar mouse candies which are apparently a U.K. favorite (you can see them at http://www.handycandy.co.uk/images/sugarmice.jpg), this round, pink product boasts a rope "tale" and two white chocolate eyes (what a waste!). This product is part of LUSH's holiday collection which means it will probably be gone at the end of the year and may or may not reappear next fall.
Each molded clump of Fairly Tale weighs 3.5 ounces and costs $4.95. It can be purchased in stores or online at http://www.lushusa.com/. Since recent "upgrades" I have been having real difficulties with the website but you may have better luck.
My Experience Fairy Tale smells exactly like Yummy Yummy Shower Gel, which I've always thought was okay-smelling but not enough to pay $9.00 for three ounces of. It's a light, strawberry inspired scent that seems to be more cream than fruit. The resulting effect is oddly artificial given LUSH's natural bent.
Prior to using this project, I have enjoyed using both handheld salt/sand scrub bars and packaged sugar scrubs. However, I have never previously used a handheld sugar scrub. After using this product I can testify that there is a good reason why such things generally do not exist: unlike there is literally nothing to hold this soft, sugary product together.
In trying to break off a piece for use in my shower, I ended up splitting the whole thing in tiny pieces. I frantically tried to use some of these pieces to scrub myself, but they further broke apart before I could even bring them in contact with my body. The few fragments that did make it to my elbows, knees, and feet turned out to be far too soft to perform any actual scrubbing and instead dissolved immediately under the water. Through the duration of this experience I just kept thinking, "there goes $5.00 down the drain, literally." I will say, at least, that I enjoyed a strong scent of strawberries and cream for the rest of my shower and the smell seemed to linger on my skin for a short time after I got out.
Overall . . . I understand LUSH is committed to "naked" products to save on packaging, but this Fairy Tale Sugar Body Scrub desperately needs a container. Further, it isn't really "scrubby" enough to accomplish much of anything beyond scenting skin. Despite its combination of three of my favorite things - sugar, strawberries, and white chocolate - I am forced to report that this product is a bust.
