I have quite a collection of LUSH products sitting on my bathroom shelves. I have more bombs, bubble bars and soaps than I care to admit, but, that doesn't stop me from buying even more! I have recently been working my way through a variety of LUSH soaps, including Figs and Leaves. This soap is definitely, well, different!
Cost & Location
I purchased my 3.5 OZ bar of LUSH Figs and Leaves Soap from lush.com for $7.60. You can purchase this at any LUSH store and from amazon.com.
A Soap That Hurts?
LUSH Figs and Leaves Soap is one of the most unique soaps I have ever used. For starters, one side of it is covered in leaves. Oh yes people, leaves. The entire soap is made up of figs, aloe vera extract, ylang ylang oil, and orange blossom absolute. The figs give it it's supposedly "gentle" exfoliating properties.
The entire soap is, to be honest, quite ugly. It's a brown color with leaves on one side and dark figs throughout. It's bumpy and rough in texture, but, I do enjoy the scent of it. The orange blossom and ylang ylang oil give it a very soothing yet uplifting scent. It's slightly sweet and comforting. It's not citrusy at all, and you would think that it would be with orange blossom absolute in it.
I initially received a sample of LUSH Figs and Leaves Soap and I absolutely adored it. It had a nice rich and creamy lather that felt wonderful on my skin. It had just enough figs to gently exfoliate and not irritate. Having had success with the sample I decided to purchase a regular sized bar. It all started out just fine, same nice and creamy lather, gentle exfoliation. Then I noticed the more I used the bar, the less gentle the exfoliating became. I also noticed that the leaves, that at first didn't bother me at all, were becoming rather gross and slimy.
Before long it plain hurt to try and bathe with my Figs and Leaves Soap! The figs were just too rough and even when I tried to gently cleanse with it, it still hurt! I couldn't bathe with the side covered in leaves because the feeling of it was just too nasty. I also noticed that the creamy lather I had loved so much was barely there at all. I had to work (and cause myself pain) to get a creamy lather at all.
I always loved how my skin felt after using Figs and Leaves, before the painful part came into play. It felt squeaky clean but not so much that my skin felt dry or itchy. My skin felt nice and smooth from the exfoliation. The scent lingered only slightly, and by the time I had finished getting ready for the day I could barely smell it at all.
Overall
I really hate that Figs and Leaves Soap didn't work out for me. I adored the sample I got, and I really love the scent. It's just not worth the pain!
