| zeecee's Full Review: L' Absinthe |
L'Absinthe, with its zinc bar, frosted glass, highly polished mahogany and tile flooring, feel like an authentic French bistro - only more special. Though this is an upper East Side neighborhood restaurant, it's not for an ordinary meal unless you're loaded. We use it as a special occasion treat - particularly enjoying the choucroute, which is done to perfection here. The sauerkraut is mild; the assorted sausages and smoked pork are flavorful, but not overpowering.
The wine list is great. Start with a kir and enjoy the fine service and nicely done meals. When you're missing Paris, this will do it for you - unless the East Siders eating at other tables remind you you're not in France. It gets an older clientele, who tend to dress a bit. But I should say I live in the Village, where we don't dress up.
The menu has a nice selection. Some dishes, such as roast chicken, will work for the less creative diners. But you can get more sophisticated meals here as well.
Additionally, we had dinner with friend, one of whom was new to a wheelchair, and the restaurant was most helpful in aiding him.
