Pros:lightweight, warm, durable, color selection options, machine wash and dry
Cons:no patterns in the color selection, some might think it expensive
The Bottom Line: These L.L. Bean Polartec 200 Fleece Blankets work well for us.
I bought two more L.L. Bean Polartec 200 Fleece Blankets ... and not for the usual reason. I know you're going to laugh at me.

The blankets are constructed from premium Polartec polyester fleece. This is the same type of fleece that L.L. Bean uses in their outwear. The fabric has an antimicrobial finish, which L.L. Bean says keeps the blanket fresher longer between washings. Antimicrobial treatment deters odor-causing bacteria from growing.
These blankets are available in Twin, Full/Queen, and King sizes.
Color choices are: Lake Blue, True Navy, Flag Blue, Blue Iris, Butter, Ivory, Sand Dune, Bay Leaf, Dark Raspberry, Nautical Red.
A bonus is that these blankets are made in New England, which supports local economy.
I had previously purchased several of these blankets for the house in various bed sizes. These fleece blankets have been in use for several years and still look great. They are lightweight yet warm. I keep one on my bed all year round, and several on the bed during the colder New England seasons.
The blankets are well constructed, too. The edges are turned under with a beautiful row of double-needle sewing along the edges. Even after many washings, these blankets have not pilled; nor have the edges come unhemmed. With this fleece being lightweight, the blankets are also easy to carry from room to room.
Care instructions state these blankets can be machine washed but not dry cleaned. Also, do not use bleach or fabric softener. Since tossing a fabric softener sheet (such as Bounce) into the dryer is second nature to me, these blankets have been treated to fabric softener. I don't notice any difference in the fabric after drying. However, I have another fleece blanket (not this style) that I washed with liquid fabric softener, and the liquid fabric softener permanently spotted the fleece blue in several areas.
Fast forward to this year's purchase. I bought two of these L.L. Bean Polartec 200 Fleece Blankets in a twin size in the Sand Dune color. The color is a light-medium tan shade (more light than medium in hue). Now don't laugh. Promise you won't laugh. It was the only way I could think to protect the two new leather armchairs from the cats. (You're sniggering, aren't you).
I knew the leather would be in danger from cat claws, but I have never owned leather furniture before now. At first, naïve me tried to keep the cats off the furniture (shoo!, down!, no!, eeeeek!). That didn't work too well. Then I thought that maybe if the chairs were covered; particularly at night when the cats sometimes decide to wrestle their way from one end of the house to the other (over, around and sometimes through objects) ... maybe the cover would help protect the leather. I did not want a plastic cover or a slipcover.
The fleece seemed like a good solution. It is lightweight, so it would be easy to put in place and remove. It's machine washable and dryable. L.L. Bean fleece is durable unlike the fleece you often find in department stores. If the cats happened to climb on it, (you're laughing again), the fleece would be thick enough to withstand kitty claws. Also, being a fleece blanket, the family could cuddle in the blankets while watching television. Seemed like a win-win situation.
All right ... so the family enjoys cuddling in the fleece. Next, the fleece looks great on the chairs. Okay ... so the cats do climb on it. But they are not racing across the leather chairs like they used to. The furniture is also more protected than without the blankets. Keeping cat nails trimmed helps, too. Not an ideal furniture protection answer, but so far it's working okay. And (ummm) well, the cats have decided they like the fleece blankets. They like napping on the cuddly fleece. And, well, we humans have to fight for the chairs!
L.L. Bean sells the twin size for $59.00, the Full/Queen size for $79.00, and the King size for $89.00.
We like these L.L. Bean Polartec 200 Fleece Blankets so much that we have also given them as gifts. We like them, and the cats like them. All thumbs and paws up from us!
