Cutie_pi's Full Review: L'Oreal Bare Naturale Luminous Lengthening Mascara...
In conjunction with my recent discovery of L'Oreal Bare Natural Gentle Mineral Eyeshadow, I also came to try the L'Oreal Bare Natural Luminous Lengthening Mascara, in Blackest Black.
Until recently, I'd been a longtime, devoted fan of L'Oreal Mascaras. I'd always been pleased with the rich texture, and the fact that I could get great definition in only one coat. However, in recent years, I strayed from my beloved L'Oreal lashes. It's not that they changed their formulas, but rather that I found other mascaras that I liked better. But since I purchased a gift set of three Bare Naturale products, I figured why not, I'll give it a try.
Now I'll admit, I'm a sucker for good marketing, and the magazine ads and televison commercials featuring a beguiling Penelope Cruz, and a fringe of rich, velvety lashes did intrigue me.
The tube itself is long and narrow, as is the handle for the wand (which makes it easier to apply without getting a black smudge across the bridge of your nose). The brush is densely bristled with very fine, tightly packed bristles.
The formula is somewhat thin (as opposed to thicker "gloppy" mascaras, which can tend to leave blobs on your lashes). And I was pleased to find that there was no dictinct odor or scent to it (as I found with another recent mascara experiement... which I'm sure I'll write about later).
The application is quite simple; the formula seems to glide on, without culmping lashes together, so there's no need to comb through your lashes afterward to separate them. Due to the width of the brush, it's easy to get most of your lashes in just one or two "sweeps."
I found my lashes were instantly more defined, and richly blackened. This isn't a super dramatic thickening mascara, but rather it gives you well defined, deeply black lashes. For me, I find it to be an ideal "daytime" mascara (whereas I'll opt for something thicker and more dramatic for evening). One coat gives subtle definition, while two coats gives some added length, and a bit of thickening.
I also found that once dry, my lashes never felt brittle, nor did it flake off even with 12+ hours of wear. You can run your fingerip along your lashes and they feel soft to the touch (you can tell you have mascara on, but it's not stiff or crunchy feeling).
My only complaint about the Bare Naturale Luminous Lenghthening Mascara is that it doesn't rinse off easily in the shower with water and facial cleanser. Even with a makeup dissolving cleanser, I find I need to use eye-makeup remover afterward to remove the telltale raccoon eyes.
Additionally, I'm unclear as to why this mascara is called "Luminous," as there's no discernabe luminensence to it. Still, I'm pleased with the product, and it may well have convinced me to try some of L'Oreal's other newer formulas.
