I've been trying to find a replacement for the reformulated -- and very expensive -- Imju Fiberwig Mascara. Drugstore brands have grabbed on to the trend of fiber mascaras, although as I discovered with Maybelline Illegal Lengths Washable Mascara, they don't seem to do it well. When I spotted a two-for sale on the gold-packaged, Gwen-Stefani-pimped L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara, I was lured in, especially since L'Oreal's basic Voluminous Mascara is my daily wear mascara.

L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara comes in an angular container (and seriously, what is it with the kludgy containers for the fiber mascaras?) and makes no promises about actual length of fibers. Actual application is a bit more complicated than most mascaras; if you haven't used a fiber mascara before, yes, you will get a lovely clumpy tarantula look. It helps to use the tip of the brush to get length first, then add on gradual thin layers as needed with the fatter part of the brush, following with a lash comb for definition. The brush could have a better design; it seems to use the same brush the regular Voluminous Mascara uses, which doesn't provide enough definition for a fiber mascara applicator.

Once on, however, I noticed definite definition and length with the L'Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes Mascara, which is more than I can say for its Maybelline competitor. Then, however, the problems began; it flakes something fierce. I spend a lot of time when wearing this mascara wiping under my eyes worried I have a case of mascara dandruff, and as a contacts wearer, it's more than a little annoying. 

Still, it has a low bar to set, and aside from the flaking, which does eventually go away after a little while, it didn't have far to go to end up at the top of a very short heap here.

The other issue with this mascara, however, is that it doesn't last long at all; I don't think a tube of this lasted me a full month.
