annalin's Full Review: L Occitane Cherry Blossom 3.4oz Eau De Toilette
Wanting a change from my normal warm weather scent DKNY Be Delicious - I happily stumbled across a new offering from LOccitane. LOccitane Cherry Blossom Eau de Toilette sounded so fresh, light, and springy, I figured it was worth a shot.
Company Background
LOccitane is a French producer and retailer of nature inspired skin care and scent products. It was created in 1976 with the philosophy of sharing with the world the essence of Provence, which according LOccitanes founder, are [t]he sun, the products of the soil and a love of nature, and has since expanded to a global distribution powerhouse. You can order their goods online or visit one of their boutiques in many countries. I normally purchase mine from upscale shopping malls in the Atlanta area, and a limited selection of their products are also sold in Sephora stores.
Cherry Blossoms
Perhaps you are familiar with the yearly Cherry Blossom Festival in Japan. Groups gather underneath the cherry trees as they are in full bloom and picnic. Washington, DC also has its own Cherry Blossom Festival as it was originally given cherry trees as a gift from Japan. I have never been to either one of the festivals, but the pictures seem so beautiful and I do love to eat the fruit!
LOccitane tells us that in Japan, the cherry tree symbolizes integrity, modesty, and courtesy. The Luberon variety of cherry was selected for use in this eau de toilette. AHA fruit acids and sugars, which are hydrating and softening, are concentrated in this perfumes extract.
Smell
LOccitane describes its Cherry Blossom Eau de Toilette as [a] fresh and floral fragrance that celebrates the beauty of the cherry blossoms during the first days of spring.
This perfume is a light scent. The top notes are sweet and juicy and smell of cherry and freesia. The middle notes are floral and feminine, with lily of the valley and another layer of cherry blossom. The subtle base notes are warm and woody with amber and musk. I am not a fan of musk, though I understand it adds some complexity to scents so they dont smell too little girl-ish. Luckily, the base notes are truly subtle in this perfume. It mainly smells light a faint, sweet scent of perhaps cotton candy and cherry. It is pleasant and light, and not immature.
It lasts fairly long on ones body, considering the light eau de toilette formulation of this perfume. Also, a little bit goes a long way as Ive used this product almost daily for nearly two months and less than a centimeter is missing from the tall bottle.
Packaging and Price
A 3.4 fl oz bottle of this eau de toilette costs $42 to 44, depending on where you purchase it. The bottle is tall and flat like a flask, and the faint pink/peach colored perfume shows through the clear glass. There is a brushed aluminum spray dispenser with a sanitary cap. Cherry blossoms on the vine are embossed onto the bottle, as is the word LOCCITANE in all caps. A label on the front lists the name and volume in French and English. It says Cherry Blossom so rare and precious in Spring.
