| m001's Full Review: La Famiglia Giorgio |
One of the highlights of my years in Boston was my frequent trips to the North End which was, for me, the culinary center of the city. Tucked away among a bunch of fine restaurants was my favorite then and, when I can make it back, now--La Famiglia Giorgio.
Maybe it's the gargantuan portions they serve (the average entree easily feeds two people from an average family [but just one from my family]), maybe it's the friendly and totally unpretentious atmosphere, maybe it's the very, very affordable prices--no, it's none of these things. It's definitely the gnocchi--my absolute favorite dish since I can remember eating solid food. In case you don't know, gnocchi is our (we being Italians) equivalent of the dumpling, made from potato or cheese, solid and smaller than, for example, a perrogie (sp?). When made properly, with just the right density, there's nothing in the world like gnocchi. La Famiglia Giorgio prepares and serves this dish well, with marinara or (my favorite) pesto. To die for.
A must-visit when in Boston. When you're done, head over to Mike's for a cannoli. And tell them that Doctor M sent you...
