User Rating: Very Good
Pros:Attractive, Construction, Burn Rate
Cons:Cutting, Lacks complexity
The Bottom Line: The LGC Double Corona is a average cigar, and it might suit your smoking needs.
Its amazing how good, some cigars from La Gloria Cubana are. They have been able to produce Dominican smokes, that are full of flavor, without emptying your wallet. I appreciate that as a "working man," and they have quite a few choices. Whether you like maduro or natural wrappers, you'll find something to like from this brand. The Double Corona natural is a big one, as its a 8x50 cigar. Its readily available at several tobacco stores close to me, and this past week, I needed "a mental vacation from work." True, it only lasted as long as this cigar, as I had to go back, but I have to say that I'm happy to have taken a little break.

I would have liked going to the Dominican Republic, where these cigars are made, much better than firing this one up. Yet due to work and money constraints, that isn't possible. Like most cigars from this brand, this is a medium to full bodied smoke. While far from their strongest, its not to be confused with other cigars from this country, which have a reputation for being mild. The coffee and chocolate notes are quite good, and I did appreciate that it has some spicy hints. These are not overwhelming but there, and I was able to detect some pumpkin flavors. Its not overly sophisticated, but it won't be confused with the "bargain bundle." I consider this to be "in the middle of the road," and I neither have a hate or loving feeling attached to it. Consider it an average smoke on flavor and complexity.
As for its appearance, this one is quite pretty. I like the smooth wrapper. At the same time, I like the attention to detail with how the tobacco is stored tight, and how this company, put some effort into how it looks. Some of their other ones, despite quality in every other aspect, look a bit ugly. This one is far from that, and it could be considered a gift cigar. The band is the traditional one, and the golden wrapper is attractive. Construction is above average as well, and I like the burn rate, along with the smoke volume. Plumes of generous smoke are available from beginning to the finish of this one, and you can expect an hour with one of these. Get your books out, or a decent newspaper.
Cutting of this one took some effort. I don't think a punch cutter, would be so good with this one. Make sure you use a sharp guillotine style one. It does burn well, with its immediate lighting though, and it never went out on me. I will give this one a recommendation, although it is not my favorite one from this well respected brand. Its just a good cigar, but not a great one. At around $8 each, its going to cost you, but its size alone guarantees you'll be able to kick back with it for some time. Its medium to full bodied taste, also will be a safe choice too. I think this one is good for those cases, when you are not sure if someone else, wants a lighter bodied smoke, or a cigar that will knock them on their seat. Average this one is, and I'd smoke one again.
