| mrlarry's Full Review: La Quinta Inn San Diego Vista |
Im a budget motel type. Usually when I travel Im so much on the go that the motel is just a crash pad, so I dont spend much on it.
A few weeks ago I was on a family visit in Escondido. Rather than doing my usual Motel 6 gig, I decided to follow my friends advice and go on Hotwire and try to get more for my money.
Hotwire linked me up with La Quinta in Vista. It was a good experience.
I arrived Friday night and found the desk clerk very polite and attentive. The room was attractive and colorfully decorated. It included a coffee maker and an iron and ironing board along with the usual furnishings you would expect from a motel. The drawer and closet space were more than adequate.
The television had the usual offerings of stations (networks, CNN, movie channels, A and E, and the like). The room had been well cleaned. Everything was in good repair. The room was quietyou didnt have to deal with the paper-thin walls of a budget motel.
The motel has a safe available as well as washers and dryers.
In the morning a local newspaper was delivered to my door.
The continental breakfast was more than ample. It had the usual bagels, breads, cereals, fruits, juices and the like. The lounge was more than adequate and the atmosphere was cordial. Several fellow guests told me that they regularly stay at that motel when they travel in that area.
If you are not into continental breakfasts, you can get a discount at the IHOP on the same block. You also can buy a pass to the gym a block away for a nominal cost.
The motel is well located. It is only a few blocks from a freeway. There are several counter type eating places within walking distance and there is a major plaza about 3/4 mile away with Wal Mart, Souplanation, Target, and lots of other shops and eateries.
The only feature of the motel I wish were different were the swimming pool hours. The pool does not open until 9 AM. Sometimes in the summertime I enjoy an early morning dip. Not a big deal for me because I have that available to me at home.
You can get a lot of general information about this motel by looking at the website, which is http://www.lq.com/lq/reservations/property_overview/propertyProfile.jsp?ident=LQ643&propId=643. Here you can find check in/check out time, current rates, and information about the area.
The motel cost me $54 a night getting it through Hotwire. Looking on their weibsite,
a room similar to the one I had would go for $79 a night for a weekend with about three weeks notice. The local Motel 6 cost about what I paid at Hotwire, but did not include the breakfast or newspaper which I usually would buy. Hence, La Quinta was actually cheaper for me than Motel 6.
I would call La Quinta a very good motel. It is rated three diamonds by AAA. I would not call it a resort of any kind. If you are looking for a resort to be the focal point of your trip and are willing to pay for that, La Quinta is not for you. If, however, you are looking for a clean, comfortable, attractive, well-designed motel, you could do a lot worse than La Quinta.
