| Bryan_Carey's Full Review: Labatt ICE |
Labatt Ice was the first ever iced- brewed beer. It was introduced in 1993 and it was the most successful new brand introduction in Canadian brewing history. This started a trend toward ice- brewing that still continues today. Each and every major brewer in the country has jumped on the bandwagon of ice brewing.
Like other ice beers, Labatt is strong on alcohol, but low on real beer taste. It has a grainy aroma and a straw color, with the taste of barley at first, then the dryness of alcohol in the finish. The alcohol content is 5.6 percent by volume. It is a decent enough beer to complement most pub foods, like fries and burgers.
The stronger than average alcohol content is the only reason that I can think of to buy this beer. The Labatt brewery undoubtedly targets the college student market and other market groups that want a quick buzz for the money. There isn't much in the way of taste, other than alcohol.
As for myself, even if a good buzz was my goal, I would still rather drink 5 bottles of regular- strength beer than drink 4 bottles of Labatt Ice. If you're in the mood for a Canadian beer, I recommend passing on Labatt Ice and buying Labatt Blue instead. Labatt Blue has a far better beer taste and it lessens the chances that you will need to reach for your bottle of aspirin the next morning.
Bottom Line: Unless your goal is simply to get drunk, I do not see any reason to buy this product.
