Truthfully's Full Review: Lanacane Creme Maximum Strength 1oz
I had purchased a tube of Maximum Strength Lanacane Anti-Itch Creme several months ago when my son came home from playing at a friends house covered in mosquito bites.
It actually looked like he had some sort of disease! I felt so bad for the poor kid going crazy itching, I ran right out and looked for the strongest over the counter anti-itch cream I could find (that would be safe to use on a child of course...my son being 7).
I was trying to get back quickly to Christopher, so I couldn't do as much package reading as I usually like, so I went for the bright yellow box that read "MAXIMUM STRENGTH". The name also helped in my decision since "Lanacane" has the word "cane" (caine) in it which means to me numbing or pain relief in this context.
I had first looked at the maximum strength versions of several other creams, but was disappointed to read they were not for use on children under 12! Then I also read on the ones containing Benydril (antihistamine blocking) cream, that you shouldn't use the cream if taking any other Benydril product. I didn't like the sound of that either.
I ran home with the Lanacane and proceeded to apply it to all of Christopher's bites. His reaction said it all! His eyes rolled and he said AHHHHH! as I rubbed the cream into each bite. Granted, part of his AHHHH! may have been the action of rubbing and itching his bites, but I think the soothing Aloe also helped. After a few minutes of continued itching, the relief really set in and he was feeling much better.
I really liked the idea that this cream also had an antibacterial ingredient to aid in healing and prevent infection. As you with boys know...if it's there, they'll scratch it (and usually with dirty hands!).
Well, today I had the opportunity to come to my own conclusion about Lanacane Maximum Strength cream. Working at a plant nursery, I often come in contact with mosquitos and other biting insects. I try to use repellent, but forgot it last week one day. Mosquitos tend to hide under my desk and strike quickly. I ended up with a double bite (two right in the same spot). It was driving me crazy! Today I was watching T.V. (or trying), but couldn't keep my mind on the show due to the insane itching on my leg. I remembered the Lanacane and ran for the tube.
I applied it to the bite and rubbed it in. I have to say, it did instantly make the bite and surrounding irritated area feel cool and soothed. Now, I also have to say it didn't immediately stop the itching. I'd say it took about 15 minutes to really stop the itch sensation completely....BUT IT DID!!!
Now I sit here several hours later, and not a hint of an itch! Most of the red irritated area is also gone, and only a small pink bump remains.
So in answer to my title...YES IT REALLY DOES WORK!
