| blythiee's Full Review: LancÔMe Effacil Oil Free Eye Makeup Remover |
For years I have used simply cleanser and water in an effort to remove mascara and other eye makeup. However, this method either left me with puffy, sore, red eyes in the struggle to get every bit of makeup off, or normal eyes with dark racoon eyes in the morning. And I used basic powder eyeshadow, non-waterproof mascara, and pencil liner so nothing extravagant!
I decided to indulge and bought myself a bottle of Lancome's Effacil Eye Makeup Remover after falling in love with the rest of their skincare line. Lancome makes two different makeup removers (the Bi-Facil as well), however Effacil is geared towards people with sensitive eyes, which was exactly what I was looking for. Also, trying Bi-Facil in the store, I noticed that it was a little oily and greasy, which is a definite detriment.
The 4.2 ounce bottle has a screw top with a very small opening for the liquid. This can be both beneficial and detrimental. Its nice that the remover doesn't come pouring out, but the opening is also so small that it can be a little tough to get out enough. I guess it depends what you're using (tissue, cotton ball, etc.) with the product.
The product, however, is highly effective! It works great and is wonderful on my sensitive eyes. Such a breeze compared to what I was used to. It doesn't smear and it removes the makeup without smearing and fighting with it. I removed every bit of my makeup without any discomfort whatsoever to my eyes. No scrubbing or streaking or pulling, which to me is fantastic!
I see in other reviews certain people have mentioned that the product is scentless. I found that my bottle did have a slight scent, but it was very light and pleasant. Almost unnoticable.
I know some people find it outrageous to spend $20 on a product like this because of the variety of other options available at the drugstore, but in this case you are certainly paying for quality. I have used L'Oreal's Plentitude Gentle Eye Makeup Remover, and it may as well have been water. This is ironic because L'Oreal is owned by Lancome and many of their products have striking similarities in quality. Spending $7 here and there on drugstore brands that are useless is just a waste of money. To me its better to spend the money and find something effective. The L'Oreal product, though, is the only other remover I have tried, so there may be other cheaper brands that work equally as well. I'd just recommend visiting your local Lancome counter and trying Effacil out.
