Pros: Thick, creamy, long lasting, and EXCELLENT!
Cons: Costly, may be too rich for those with oily or combination skin.
The Bottom Line: The richest and most hydrating eye cream I have ever used. It's the ONE beauty item that I would pay any amount to have at all times. It's that good.

| PattyTherre's Full Review: LancÔMe Progres Eye Creme |
This review was originally written in late 2001. I updated it on March 16, 2005 for more clarity and info but my view on this product remains the same: It is awesome!
Here's another update. It's December 14, 2006 and the jar has changed a little but the quality is still wonderful. I continue to use this cream nightly. Age 42 and very few lines and no deep creases.
I was introduced to Lancome Progres Eye Cream about seven years ago. I have always had dark circles under my eyes no matter how much sleep I got and the under eye area was very dry. I was worried I would get crow's feet or wrinkles as I am now 40 as of 2005 (OUCH!) and usually the creams I used either stung my eyes or were too light and oily for me. When the salesperson suggested Progres, I saw the price tag and said NO WAY!! However, my husband bought me a jar for Christmas and I was hooked!
The Consistency of the Cream
The cream is very heavyweight. Some may not like just how thick it is. It is extraordinary in many ways. A little goes a very long way and the hydration you get with this cream is second to none. I knew I never would use anything else under and around my eyes even if it DID cost a small fortune after my first night wearing the cream to bed and waking up hydrated and supple for the first time...ever!
It is white and very rich. You only need a tiny dab under and around your eyes to completely hydrate and replenish them. I use this as a night cream, with a slightly heavier hand, as well as a day cream. I only use a touch for day so that my make up doesn't smear. The hydration and softening last all day or night.
Disaster Averted
Back in 2001, when I ran out, I went to several different shopping malls looking for Progres. The Lancome salespeople had none in stock and indicated that it was being discontinued! I could not believe it. I even called Lancome to BEG them to reconsider. I could not find any anywhere.
I started on my search for a replica of Progres, a search that would prove futile. I tried anti wrinkle creams, Vitamin C creams, eye brightening lotions, you name it. Some were decent, most stung my eyes and made my eyesight blurry, and NONE felt as awesome as Progres.
I was at a department store looking for some mascara when I asked the saleswoman at the Lancome counter if there was an eye cream like Progres that I could try. To my delight, she said she had some and it was not discontinued after all!!
I immediately spent the $44.00 (at the time, the price is now $51.00), thinking that I should snap up several jars on my charge card in case I couldn't find more again, but I was assured that Progres was a good seller and would be there when I needed it.
When I got home, I put just a touch on. It felt so great to have my thick, rich eye cream back. I am convinced that Progres has helped ward off wrinkles and crow's feet and I use it faithfully again after nine terrible months of throwing dollars out the door looking for something similar.
The Official World
This is from www.lancome.com: PROGRÈS EYE
Eye Crème
Creamy-smooth and super-concentrated, this advanced eye creme combats and minimizes the signs of aging.
Rich in emollients to hydrate and smooth expression lines, this luxurios creme conditions and protects the delicate eye area to help you stay younger-looking longer.
Ingredients
So, with all the new eye creams out on the market today from wrinkle relaxers, to line fillers and plumpers, to anti-aging, to all natural eye lift replicators, what does Progres contain that continues to make it a best seller after all these years?
The box lists several ingredients that make no sense to me except it contains Shea Butter, Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Water, and Glycerin. None of these ingredients are the new age of wrinkle combatants that have taken over the market yet the formula works exceptionally well on wrinkles and fine lines, and hydrates the delicate skin around the eyes.
Pricing and Other Info
As of March 2005, a one half ounce jar is $51.00. That is a crazy price, I know, but your eyes will thank you. I have been using it faithfully (except for when it wasn't available a few years ago) and I swear, I have not developed any wrinkles or lines around my eyes since I started using this cream. That can be chalked up to good genes but I strongly believe the ultra hydrating ingredients of Progress stepped in and thwarted those little annoying lines from forming.
You can purchase Lancome Progres Eye Cream at www.lancome.com and several other areas on the net as well as fine department stores. Try to catch a Lancome gift sale where you get a free gift with purchase or a gift for a special low price with purchase to take the sting out of spending $51.00 for a tiny tub of eye cream. Remember, though, that this cream lasts for months when used regularly. You need only the smallest amount of cream applied to the eye area and will not need to reapply for many hours.
The Bottom Line
Progres may not be for you if you have oily skin as it is amazingly rich in moisturizers. It is made for those with aging skin, I was told, and I was even told I was not in need of a cream so rich at my age. Well, I love it and I think it is the best of the best that Lancome makes. I use an under eye concealer called "Dermablend" which was originally made for scars and other spots and is quite dry going on. This makes me tug at my eye area and can cause some dryness there. It works great though and I did not want to stop using it. Progres is perfect because it is so rich that the concealer goes on smoothly with no tugging or pulling at the delicate eye area skin and it also makes the concealer much less noticeable and natural looking.
At night, I am more generous with my use of Progres. I make sure to get the corners of my eyes as well as under my eyes. When I wake up in the morning, my eye area is moist and supple and if I didn't use the drying Dermablend, I would not even need eye cream in the morning.
For those who are looking for a thick, rich cream, this one is it. It is a great night cream and you can use something lighter during the day if you wish. One note: While this cream is awesome on lines and wrinkles, it doesn't work so well on my dark circles (and doesn't claim to). My dermatologist told me to invest on Revision Teamine Eye Complex which, she says, is the only over the counter cream that really works on dark circles. That, too, is about $50 for one half ounce. I recently purchased some and use it when I am home during the day. Nothing will stop me from my twice daily regiment of Progres!
I also sometimes use Progres around my lips as well to avoid the tiny creases that can develop there. I wish there was a Progres night face cream because I would pay almost any amount for something that goes so far and is so darn good without irritating or burning etc.
It's expensive...but you're worth it.
