mjfrombuffalo's Full Review: Lancome JUICY TUBES Ultra Shiny Lip Gloss
I haven't mentioned this in the latest few reviews, so I guess now is a good time to remind people: I am cheap. I buy my makeup from Avon or the drug store, not Mac or the department store. I don't think I've ever spent more than $10 for an individual item in my makeup arsenal. I am not one for a heavy-handed, dramatic look, preferring to just augment my natural look (and cover up some of the unpleasant "natural" stuff, like zits.)
So how did Lancome Juicy Tubes Lip Gloss end up in my makeup bag? Lucky me, I've got a coworker who is nuts about taking care of his skin, and regularly buys department-store toners, moisturizers, etc. So when Lancome gave him one of those "free x, y, and z with any purchase of $19.50 or more," he snapped it up for me. And, since I'm cheap, I'm pretty much guaranteed to like any product if it's free.
Application
Lancome Juicy Tubes Lip Gloss comes in a tube with a twist-off cap and angled plastic tip - just take off the cap, squeeze the tube, and rub the stuff on your lips. Since it's fairly sheer, there's no need to obsess about applying it "just so" to avoid the color bleeding outside the lip line. It slides on fairly easily - not as easily as a soft lip balm like Softlips or Blistex, but smoother than Chapstick and some of the drier lipsticks out there. The gloss can be applied over lipstick for extra shine, but you would want to stay in the same general color family for the two products.
Appearance
Glossy. When they say Ultra Glossy, they mean Ultra Glossy. I used the "Strawberry Glaze" tint and I looked like I'd just drunk some Hawaiian Punch and licked my lips. Well, actually, it's a bit glossier than that... more like that 80's gloss that came in a dispenser with a roll-top. It looks nice, with just enough tint, not too thick, not too odd to seem blatantly unnatural. There's none of those "diamond" flecks in it that makes women look like they stuck their lips in the glitter pot of their kids' arts and crafts sets. There is no detectable scent or taste.
Mouth Feel
(Hmmm. Makes this sound like a wine review, doesn't it?) Your eyes might see "light and shiny," your lips will feel "heavy and sticky." You can tell it's there. It's not an apply-and-quickly-forget-it's-there product, Lancome Juicy Tubes Lip Gloss is hard to forget. Keep your lips together for a while and then part them or move them against each other and they feel like you used a glue stick instead of a lip gloss. Do nothing and you'll still feel like you ate a Krispy Kreme and forgot to wipe your mouth afterwards. Lick your lips and the sticky/heavy feeling abates for a little while, but it will come back - especially if you're outdoors on a cold, windy day. But this stickiness/heaviness seems to have a benefit - my lips did seem to stay softer and more conditioned.
Durability
Honestly, this is a tough question for me to answer. First off, when I'm done putting on my makeup, I'm done looking in the mirror. I might catch a glance at myself in the ladies' room mirror during the day, but I don't stop to check every detail or reapply any makeup, including lipstick. (Besides, who wants to spend a lot of time looking closely at oneself in a room with florescent lights and unflattering-colored walls? That's enough to make Naomi Campbell run out crying!) I also tend to rub or chew my lips together while thinking and I smoke. All that will affect the length of time lipstick stays on lips. I can tell you that, at lunch, there are times when I still have some lipstick on and there are times I don't. When I wear this gloss, I don't tend to have any left by lunch. (This is the scientific, wipe-the-mouth-after-a-bite-of-burger test, patent pending.)
So what have I learned from this experience? Lancome Paris produces makeup for women who like shiny lips that feel tacky and look good. They also like to put this stuff on a few times a day and spend a nice chunk of Euros to do it. But to me, the "Oooh Lah Lah" experience was more "Ugh, Blah, Blah."

For those who absolutely, positively think a beauty review is unacceptable without them, the stats are listed below.
Lancome Juicy Tubes Ultra Shiny Lip Gloss
Price: $15.50
Description (from Lancome): Sparkling, sheer Juicy Tubes is shine refined. Lips glisten with an ultra-brilliant formula that slicks on easily with its tube-tip applicator. Adds power to your pout with transparent shine, plus a hint of shimmering colour in the season's hottest shades.
Comes in 16 shades.
The ingredients are not listed on my sample tube, nor are they detailed on Lancome's website (www.lancome.com).
Interestingly, I could not find any information about Lancome's animal testing policy. They do not mention animal testing on their website, which (in my experience) usually indicates that they DO test on animals. However, they were not on PETA's Do Test or Don't Test lists (www.peta.org). No animals were harmed in the writing of this review. Do not kiss pets while wearing this lip gloss unless you want hairy lips.

This review is the twenty-fifth installment of "Around My House in 28 Days," my response to the challenge leveled by amykhar. The challenge is to post one review every day for the whole month of February. Well, at least it's a short month. I'm starting at my door and going counter-clockwise around the house, reviewing whatever's in sight (and on this site). So far it's been the bathroom, then the kitchen, then the living room, the great outdoors, the bedroom, and now my briefcase...
