| tiltedhalo's Full Review: Lancome Rouge Absolue Creme Lipstick |
I finally have found a lipstick that I will keep going back to. In fact, I have now tried it in several shades and it isn't a fluke! This stuff is DYNOMITE as Gary Coleman would say. Since trying Rouge Absolute Creme Lipstick, other lipsticks just don't cut the mustard for me; not even other Lancome brand lipsticks!
The first time I tried Rouge Absolue Creme was at the counter during a makeover. I loved the creamy feel of it and the champagne pink color; but at the time I just couldn't justify spending $20.00 on a tube of Absolute lipstick, when I had recently purchased another tube from the Lancome regular line of lipsticks (I can't recall the line but I believe it's now discontinued anyhow) just a few weeks earlier. However, within a few short weeks I received not one but TWO tubes of Absolue Creme in a fabulous GWP that I picked up on a trip to Chicago - one in a shade of beige called Platinum and the other in the lovely pink Champagne color that I had previously tried on.
I was CERTAIN, that I would not be able to wear Platinum. Having very cool tones in my face, I've never been able to wear any sort of brown colors; even with eyeshadow much less lip color, but Platinum is wonderful and can be worn alone, underneath or ontop of any color. It actually makes colors change! I love it! And the champagne...... Well I guess I can only say that I'm buying another tube this year because I actually ran out! I've NEVER in my entire life run out of a tube of lipstick as I'm the most fickle person I know when it comes to lipstick (especially when a company literally GIVES you 20 tubes!)
Why do I love Absolue Creme so much? Absolue Creme simply feels better than any other lipstick I've ever had on. It feels almost like a moisture balm and my lips feel great with it. In addition, the smell is SO good that I almost want to eat the stuff. It's not a food flavoring; in fact I have NO idea what the scent is but trust me IT'S GREAT!
The tubes that come in GWP are actually a full size but have different casing from those actually purchased. The GWP tubes have the typical round lipstick casing we are all used to seeing while the purchased lipsticks seem to have cases which are slightly sturdier with a top that slants just like a brand new lipstick. Basically a very flashy case. Usually the Lancome Rose is engraved into middle of the case where you take it apart. (not that any of this matters..but simply to illustrate that the cases are far different when you buy).
I've only purchased 2 lipsticks - one was an offshoot of Absolue Creme and was a promotion for the season of 2001; called Rouge Attraction and had special lighting effects in the formula. There is another type of Absolue Lipstick available called Absolue Sensation. Almost all of the same colors are available but Sensation gives a shiny finish as opposed to the creamy texture. I prefer Absolue Creme by far. In fact I have the Champagne color that I love so much in Sensation and never wear it.
The actual Absolue Creme formula is enriched with Vitamin A and E to give great moisture to your lips and there are antioxidants in the formula for color, moisture and care. (from Lancome's website)
I do not have a lot of problem with this lipstick bleeding or coming off. When I apply it in the morning, it usually stays on until noon. THAT for me is a real test. I do powder my lipstick between applications to enhance the stayability. Lancome insists that this lipstick does not come off on coffee cups. While this lipstick is somewhat less staining than SOME on coffee cups etc., I can't say that it totally is totally repellant. I believe this is a good thing as I don't want to use kerosene to take it off!
The color range for this lipstick is excellent with 25 shades to choose from (6 warm, 8 neutral - i.e. beige/brown and 11 cool shades) As mentioned previously, I adore Champagne since I have Ivory skin with brunette hair but I've also had great wear from the following neutral colors: Platinum, and Amanda Sucre. As well, Lancome brings out new colors every season for just a few months.
Even applying this lipstick is phenomenally easy. It's so rich, that I actually am able to put it on straight from the tube. That is UNHEARD of for me.
Removing Absolue is not a problem. It comes off easily during my normal skin care routine. I often use Bi-Facil eye-makeup remover to remove my lip-makeup at the same time.
Just before my move to Calgary from Oklahoma, my Lancome Rep changed lines and wanted to do a makeover on me since we are great friends. I agreed although I told her I likely would not be buying any product. Although she did a nice look for me and I DID buy an eyeshadow, the lipstick she put on me had a horrid texture and felt like plastercine after wearing Absolue. What's more it was $3.00 more a tube! Thanks but I'll wear Absolue any day. The lipstick she gave me from the "other line" went straight to my garbage can.
Today I received a brand new GWP and guess what I got! A shiny new tube of Absolue Creme in a new shade that I've never tried - Bordeux; the darkest in the berries. It'll be interesting to see how this holds up against my ivory complexion. If it doesn't work I'll be going back to the counter to actually BUY Champagne!
One added note: there was a time that I had quite chapped lips from all the air travel I was doing. My rep convinced me to buy Lancome's Primordial Lip. I use this stuff to help with feathering but it also helped the chapping. I'll review it later.
