amyk49's Full Review: Land O Lakes, Cocoa Mix Classic Hazelnt, 1.25-Ounc...
Fall is one of my favorite seasons, and with the cooler weather I love a hot cup of cocoa. I was browsing the grocery aisles and noticed these small, single-serving cocoa mix packets from Land O Lakes, and couldn't resist giving it a try.
~ Product Description Land O Lakes Cocoa Classics Hazelnut Hot Cocoa Mix comes in a travel size, or single-serving size 1¼ oz. foil packet. At my grocery store, these packets were not boxed, but sold separately by the packet. I think I paid about .69 for each packet.
The bright foil packaging is very attractive, and I was definitely lured into buying this partly from the packaging. Nice job, Land O Lakes Marketing Team!
To prepare, place the contents of the entire packet in an 8 ounce cup, and add 6 ounces of hot water. Stir to mix. That's it. Land O Lakes suggests adding whipped cream to make it even more delicious.

I love rich cocoa, so that is what I was hoping for. Plus I'm a big hazelnut flavor fan, so I thought it would be a nice change to have a little hazelnut flavor with my cocoa.
The foil packet tore open easily enough. The cocoa mix inside is a very fine powder. I heated some water, just below boiling, and poured it into my mug on top of the cocoa mix and stirred.
Land O Lakes Cocoa Classics Hazelnut dissolved in the hot water pretty well, with a few stirs. I had to stir well at the bottom of my mug to get it all fully dissolved, but I would say this is normal and expected.
After fully dissolving, the cocoa had a light chocolate color, with hardly any froth. It was on the thin side. Granted, I didn't measure out the water, but my cup was an 8 ounce cup so I think I had it pretty close.
I took a few sips, being careful not to burn my mouth. I could detect a faint hazelnut flavor, but it was not very noticeable. It tasted like a mild, not-so-rich cocoa with a hint of hazelnut. It was, eh, okay.
I added a healthy dose of whipped cream, just because I LOVE whipped cream, and to make it a little richer, and that helped. It was a decent cup of cocoa, and pretty satisfying, especially with the whipped cream.
Land O Lakes did not suggest you could make this with hot milk instead of hot water. I suppose you could though, and that might produce a richer cup of cocoa.
The single serving pouches are good for travel, I guess. But then, most cocoa mixes come in single serving pouches, just boxed up. The foil packets are sturdy.
If you're choosing this because of the hazelnut flavor you might be disappointed. Yes, there is a hint of hazelnut, but it's not all the noticeable.
~ Final Thoughts Land O Lakes Cocoa Classics Hazelnut Hot Cocoa Mix was a little disappointing, but not bad. The cocoa was on the thin side, and not all that rich. Adding whipped cream definitely helped. The hazelnut flavor was not very noticeable. It's an okay cocoa mix, but I've had much better, so I cannot recommend.
