Pros:Rugged, Durable, Attractive, Roomy... Can't say enough good things about it!
Cons:Nothing. It's even worth the $50 price tag, and I'm a very frugal mom!
The Bottom Line: A necessary and worthwhile purchase if you have one child or four!
I bought the Lands End Deluxe Diaper Bag during the last month of my first pregnancy. I first used it as my hospital bag and was amazed at how much stuff it held. I continued to use it through my daughter's first year, finally switching to a smaller more streamlined bag.
The bag itself:
This is a larger diaper bag but isn’t overly burdensome. Something I found out though... make sure you adjust the handle so that the bag falls just at your waist or right below... otherwise you’re putting too much unnecessary strain on your back although if you were like me some mornings, carrying a briefcase, a breast pump, a diaper bag and an infant carrier with the infant, it doesn’t matter where the stinkin’ handle is.
It is about 16"Wx11"Hx12"D, and made of a vinyl backed nylon that is very durable... Three years later and mine is still one hundred percent sans cuts and tears… There are insulated pockets on both the inside and the outside, though I never used them to carry bottles… I found them to be just a tad too small… On both long sides of the outside are Velcro pockets the length of the bag. On both short sides are elastic gathered pockets. The largest zippered portion inside of the bag is lined with mesh pockets, a key ring and a roomy area for your largest items. There are two smaller zippered portions. Lands end also includes a 29" long changing pad and an expandable hanging toiletry bag to fit in these pockets.
Mary Poppins would be proud:
When Isabelle was an infant, I carried two or three bottles (in my own insulated carrier, not the one on the front of the bag), diapers, wipes, a change of clothes, pajamas, toys, books, burp cloths... as she got a little older, I added Cheerio's and Goldfist, crayons and coloring books, etc. Around her first birthday, I was ready for any and every situation.
I'm expecting my second child now, and know this bag will handle both as my sister-in-law has a 3 year old and an 8 month old and pulled hers out again. She, who packs more than I do, has been able to easily carry enough for both children in this bag. I've seen her pull out both sized diapers, clothes, books and toys, bottles and sippy cups in such a manner that it seemed like Mary Poppin's bottomless carpet bag!
Color Dilemma:
The only thing I would caution is color... Stick with the primary colors. I ordered three bags before I got one I liked. (Marine Blue - which is really a deep navy.) Lands End changes the available colors on their diaper bags quite often. As of today, their website is advertising this bag in Raisin, Dark Fir and Dark Raspberry.
Final Thoughts and Recommendations:
I occasionally see people selling Lands End Deluxe Diaper Bag on Ebay, though I might be hesitant to buy a used one that I couldn’t see and touch first. It’s a durable nylon, but it’s not invincible! This is definitely worth the $49.50 price tag, though I might be tempted to go for the backpack styled diaper bag if I were doing it all over again. If you want to sell it when you’re finished, don’t opt for the $5 monogramming. If you’re going to use it until the cows come home, you might want to be able to distinguish yours from the others at your new favorite hangouts: McDonald’s playland, Disney world, etc.
All in all, I give this two thumbs up and my seal of approval!
Thanks for reading, and, as always, comments are always appreciated!
