| nagels's Full Review: Lands End Suede Moc Slippers for Men |
It wasn't an exhaustive search, but I quickly tired of looking for that certain pair of slippers just the same. The hardwood floors and the Pergo are cold under my feet so I wanted something to keep my feet warmer. My current slippers have hard rubber-like soles and make too much noise on the hard flooring in the early morning hours. I wanted something softer and quieter under my heels. For a while I wore two pairs of socks, but that was only a temporary solution. My heelless slippers worked well except for the noise they made, exacerbated by the loosey goosy fit of the slippers.
One day I decided to do an online slipper search and my clicking eventually brought me to Lands End, one of my favorite online stores. The suede moc slippers looked like what I'd been seeking and with the 25% off sale and offer of free shipping seemed like a good deal. With a few easy clicks I placed my order and waited for the slippers to reach Spud Acres via UPS.
Men's Suede Moc Slippers from Lands' End
Features: Supple suede uppers - they are suede and they are supple Hand stitched forefoot cover allows a natural give - These slippers weren't given to me. I had to pay for them. Cushy pile lining - It's pile lining all right, but I wouldn't describe it as cushy. Ultra-flexible textured crepe soles - I didn't know what crepe was, but I found out.
A color for every person or personality - With seven colors and six sizes available, this is a bit of hyperbole. Among the oldest surviving shoe styles - The style may be old, but the slippers arrived in brand new condition.
These mocs are sold in D width only; no wide sizes are offered The available sizes are: 8 -13. There are no half sizes. Colors available for these slippers are: dark brown, black forest, dark charcoal, light brown, loden green, true navy and rich red. I chose the dark brown model.
Imported - Translation: Made in China
My Experience My slippers reached Spud Acres about 8 days after the order was placed. They arrived via UPS, and when they shipped Lands' End emailed me a tracking number. The tops of these shoe/slippers are soft suede and have the traditional moccasin styling I was familiar with. The cushy pile lining isn't very cushy and doesn't have a luxurious look or feel. Within two days of wearing these slippers, the cushy lining had lost any little bit of cushiness it may have had. It still has a nice warm feel, but not the thick softness implied in the ad's description. Looks - I very much like the traditional appearance of these slippers though aesthetics are not usually a high priority for me except when shopping for vacuum cleaners or potatoes. Certainly not even the fussiest person will mock these moccasins. Comfort - For the first week the slippers were too tight for my tastes, and I even considered returning them for a larger size. But a larger size might result in floppy slippers slipping on and off my feet. I decided to keep the tight footgear and bear with perfectly . As far as the soles go, they are working out well too even though the material used is not what I had originally wanted. These crepe soles are actually better than cloth or fiber because they grip the floor well to prevent sliding on hard surfaces.
Wear - I haven't worn these more than a few weeks now, so I can't predict how long they will last. The textured, crepe soles are rubbery in appearance and feel but very thin. As long as I only wear these slippers in the house and resist urges to " just go outside for a second" instead of switching shoes, I expect these moccasins to give me good service for an extended period.
Quiet - Looking at the picture of the crepe sole online, I thought it looked like some sort of tight fabric weave, not the rubbery substance under my feet at this moment. I had hoped for a soft, quiet sole so as not to wake Mrs. Spudman or the dogs sneaking into the house late in the evening after a Mr. Potato Head Club meeting. Walking in these slippers doesn't result in loud footsteps so I can run amoc in the mornings too without worrying about waking others.
If you've ever bought a pair of work or garden gloves with a rubbery, textured surface on the fingers and palm, then you can visualize what these crepe soles look and feel like. I own a pair of Ace garden gloves with this very substance, and the gloves are holding up nicely despite frequent use and taxing demands. Value - I am happy with my purchase, but remember that I got the discount and the free shipping deal. These slippers are certainly worth the 19 dollars I paid for them. In fact, they've worked out so well that I wouldn't mind paying full price for them.
Finally - I like my slipper/moccasins and have no reservations recommending them.
These slippers should not be immersed in water because they are not water moccasins.
