For those new to nursing, nursing pads fit into your bra and absorb any breast milk you might leak. The goal of the pads is to prevent leaks from staining your shirt - announcing to the world in a rather embarrassing way that you are nursing.

Nursing pads come in a variety of materials and can be washable or disposable. I personally like the cotton washable pads for most day to day use. They are my favorite for comfort but they come with several drawbacks. One significant problem is that a lot of the cotton, washable pads are thick and therefore visible under tighter shirts. They also don't have plastic backs so it is possible to leak all the way through cotton pads. Finally, they require washing and I am not always caught up on laundry, so sometimes I am padless.

WHAT YOU GET

I bought these Lansinoh disposable pads to bridge the gap. These pads are fairly thin. They are also cup shaped so they fit more closely than a pad cut into the shape of a circle. The Lansinoh pads are more discreet than my usual cotton pads, although they are still visible under certain of my shirts.

Another nice thing about the Lansinoh pads is that they have a plastic backing that gives more security against leaks. There is also a small adhesive strip to stick the thing in your bra. I never used the strip and found the pads staying in place perfectly well without it.

GREAT FOR TRAVEL - THROW SOME IN THE DIAPER BAG

The Lansinoh pads each come individually wrapped. This makes them great for travel. You can throw some in your purse, the diaper bag or office drawer just in case you find you need them while out. The plastic wrapping ensures they stay clean before you use them.

MY EXPERIENCE

As I mentioned above, I think washable cotton pads are nicest. They absorb enough milk for my purposes and are most comfortable against my skin.

I found these Lansinoh pads were great for travel and as extras to have around when I needed them. They are also discreet under tighter shirts. They are not as comfortable against my skin as the cotton pads. The plastic backing could also make a faint crinkle sound at times which was unpleasant.

FINAL RECOMMENDATION

I think these pads are very useful as part of a nursing wardrobe. Buy some for travel or as extras when you run out of regular pads.
